Trading Tech Question

Just wondering, how do I go about assessing what would be an acceptable tech trade with the AI? I was trying for Corvette Tech and traded Battle Armor for it. Got a "This is a fair deal, HOW??" I was looking to see what the AI would consider a fair deal but just don't see it.

I think it's by the text colour. Certainly when I put a deal on the table and the text is yellow, they reject it. If the text is green, they like it........ :)

The trick is also looking at what they're trying to do, which is where espionage is handy.

Anyway, as long as you know the leader's political party and other leanings, you can better judge how they value certain techs.

They also seem to value theory over the practical.

So, look for green color text when the deal is assembled before SENDing it and invest in some espionage. :) I'll try that. Thanks.

Yep, but try to get the maximum out of it by putting some extra stuff in the deal. If you trade techs there's always a way to squeeze money out of the AI too. Just up the amount and number of months till the colour switches to yellow and you can find out where the break-even point is.

Would be great if there would be a good way of fiddling the prices and timelines - the way it is done now is a bit cumbersome. Also the option of asking the other side what they'd offer like they had in Civ3 would come handy. At the end of the day the game is not about entering prices and timelines...

The techs that give you new types of offensive ships have a crazy value in trade. It's almost never worth it to trade for them.

Good point on the Civ3 feature. As it stands now, it is much like trial-and-error to find out what the AI will accept.

BTW, has anyone had the AI accept a deal even if the deal was highlighted yellow? I remember that in Civ3, every once in a while, the AI would accept a deal that the advisor indicated they might night go for...

I'd like a civ3 style trading system too, however, I was unaware of the text color changing with the AI's potential yay or nay on the trade. I'll play with this tonight, as it could potentialy shave lots of time from my trading. :)
