In-game cutscenes not working

Hi, folks.

I've been trying for a while to get the in-game cutscenes to work. The title page animates fine, planets whirl on the display screens etc., but I can't get the in-game movies to play like for colonies, invasions, building a base, etc.

Can anyone help?

I've downloaded an mp3 patch but that was corrupted (it didn't get past extracting) and the coolrad or whatever utility that allows bink video made absolutely no difference.

Basically I just have the still shot or first screen of the cutscene. Given that I've downloaded like 100mb of media files you'd think this thing should work eh?

Running on Win XP.

I'm open to any suggestions. If you think I should try that mp3 patch again can you post a link to a site where they have a good copy?

Thanks for you help.

Make sure that you have the multimedia module installed from SDC.

Yes, the entire download has been done via Stardock, and also I watched it unwind and install once the download was done. So that doesn't seem to be the problem.

And here is the weird part. The cutscenes went away with later patches. When I originally installed the game, the cutscenes worked. Now I did a wipe and reinstall but once fully patched up to date, I get non-functioning cutscenes.

I am clueless!

Check where you installed the update. Maybe it didn't install the multimedia to the same directory.

We recently changed Drengin.net to TotalGaming.Net, so if you have a Drengin.net folder and a TotalGaming.Net folder, and parts of GC are in both of them, that may be your problem.

Ya know ... the scene that occurs when my trade route first gets attacked had the sound cut out from it in one of the recent patches. I hope 1.21 fixed it.

Okay, I reinstalled everything. And this time I paid extra attention to where stardock installs. I installed it in the same folder as GalCiv and that seemed to make a huge difference.

All the cutscenes work, all the extra multimedia is detected by the game, and I have the in-game music back now too!

So CariElf's statement to check the directories paid off. I had Stardock in its own totally independant directory in the programs folder and that f'd everything up.

So keep your directories in mind when installing all your stuff.

Thanks for all your help folks!
