How are Events Determined?

I've been wondering about how Galciv determines the frequency of events. For instance, does the game determine which planets will have colonization events as soon as you start a game, or does it determine it randomly every time you colonize a planet? And what about other events? Does the game determine randomly whether you will get an event every time you end your turn or what? If so, what are the chances of getting an event on a given turn or with a given planet? And how does the game determine which event you will get? Is that random too? Could someone please help me with this?

Here is what I know. It is random.

A colonization event never happens on your 1st planet you colonize.

An event never happens on a planet less the 12 PQ.

A colonization event will only happen once per planet. So you cannot destroy colony and re-colonize to get multi-pul colonization event.

You can re-colonize a planet that did not give you an event the 1st time and get an event the 2nd.

I have used the following cheese. Save game just before colonizing a planet. Colonize, if you don't get a colonization event at all or a real poor one. Reload and try again. This proved the randomness of the events.

The cost of this of course is that the AIs get a round of trading and rush buys of TG and Wonders. THis trade/rush buy happens every time you reloasd a game.

Well, that explains colonization events. But what about my other questions? How does the game determine random events unrelated to colonization? And how does it figure out which event you'll get? I'm still confused here. :notsure:

Sorry thats not exactly correct, they happen less frequently, but they happen.

Events are given a % chance to occur every turn. The exact % is not known to the player. If a random event occurs , then the specific random event is chosen at random from the available .event files in your data folder.

Thanks moser I knew if I waited long enough someone who knew how to answer the question would.

I have never had one happen on the 1st planet. Quite likely to happen on the second though.

Does the percent chance of an event occuring on a turn ever vary, or does it always stay the same? And do the different events have different chances of occuring or do they all have an equal chance?

I agree with Exalted Druid. I've never had one on my first planet either. Could this happen on some versions of Galciv, but not on others?

Not sure. It "seems" to improve slightly later in the game but that might just be my perception.

Currently, after scannning the event files with GalCivWriter, the original events and the mods I have seen all have equal probability of occuring but there is a variable available to reduce the likelyhood of an event occuring versus the other events. Its just not used.

If you enable cheat code, the key sequence to force a random event is CTRL+SHIFT+E. Be advised that games that have cheat codes enabled will submit an anomolous score of zero.
