Anyone ever played/heard of Starshatter??

I came across this game yesterday, and it seems it was made almost 100% by one indie developer...by one I mean one person.

Its seems to be space combat sim where you start out as a lone fighter pilot ala X-3 or Freespace 2 and get promotions until you are commanding capitol ships and carrier groups ala Homeworld RTS style.

Anyway, I ended up buying it the box+DL and so far have been pleasntly surprised. Seems they are simliar to SD as far as no copy protection, huge modding capabilities etc. Support is obviously not as good since not one person I know has even heard of it.

I just spent a little time on it so was wondering if anyone has checked it out?

Milo (the dev) use to have chats at the Avault forum. Real nice guy and the game is pretty good.

I got below-good reviews (no suprise since it wasnt a huge name) but seems like it had a good dedicated following.

Really wish the community was still active. Seems Starshatter and Sins are so damn fun and original that more folks would have checked it out. Well when I am not playing Sins Ill be checking out more of Starshatter.

the modding community for starshatter is still very active. The fun part is having the time for both games and that wierd real life thingy :D

Starshatter is an excellent game. You can have a lot of fun with the mission creator the game comes with too. I can't say how many times I've set up various situations that will test the boundaries of a pilot's skills. Try commanding a single Terellian Alliance Devastator-class cruiser against an entire Hegemony battle group.

Still, the game does have its drawbacks. It is well known for crashes during the dynamic campaign, and the graphics are beginning to show the game's age. Overall, though Starshatter's a great game and I still find myself playing it from time to time, not to mention taking a crack at a few of the mods the community has produced.

Crashes? Ugh. Nothing irks me more than games that don't run well.

I will probably pick it up in the future but not before a price drop.

starshatter the gathering storm's graphics are decent even compare with modern standards.  Besides, it is a space combat sims, so i don't think people should be too picky about it.  Unless you want X3 quality, but then that is pushing it.  I like both games as well as Freelancer, but c'mon, X3TC has lagging issues even running on the latest Toshiba Qosmio or a quad core with top notch grapchis cards.  So Starshatter is the next best thing if you want decent graphics, good size battles and non lagging issues.
