well, I guess its my turn to have 2 days worth of investment go down the frickin toilet based on a random dice roll (called an EVENT.) The evil bullshit "taking over your planet" happened to me now. Game over.
I had the other races destroyed or on the run but now these uber ships cannot be beat and the Draginol are pumping them out like muffins from an oven, all the planets have 100% morale (gee imagine that. no cheating here though)The system has a dozen uber dreadnaughts protecting it (as if anybody had a chance against ONE of those ships.) Oh yeah and did I meantion the super duper Mother(f___er) of all ships yet? I got that rippin up the galaxy as well.
WHAT FUN. Cant wait to start up a new game and have that happen again.
Please tell me the updates reduce this shit. Or allow a DIFFICULTY SLIDER/toggle/whatever so that idiots like me who are playing on FOOL dont have to contend with random dice roll game enders if they dont want to.
If not, than this game is a waste of time for me and I will put it up for sale on EBAY.

I know. BFD. One guy in a million dosnt like the game or CANT HANDLE the AI. Blah blah. It wont stop the rest of the world from whoopin it up with GalCiv. (and it wouldnt be meant to.) But I have better things to do with my time than play no win situation games or games that suck the fun out at the last minute(including the OTHER space game thats out there.)

I'd rather have a "you had a dream" event where none of your empire building ever really happened. You just play for days and get the event and boom, you have just a few planets. Not much different than the Draginol event except the Draginol takes a little longer.
I feel cheated by that dice roll.. I usually like to be kissed if THAT happens.

They patched that. Problem of super heavy events hitting early on and against easier AI levels was indeed fixed. So update it and then give it a couple days rest. Or even better leave it for a few days then patch it as there will likely be another by then. Its a complex game. You might also try making named save points every so often too. That way you can recover. Good luck. Oh and you click on the "New Save Game" and then type in a pertinent name like "Medium Winning." The nameing of save games are not intuitive. Anyhow good luck.

It's a game.

You had a "random" event that went bad. It happens. (IMHO) That's what makes this *game* interesting. Never know what will happen next. Part of the fun is seeing if I can adjust my strategy to overcome it.

If I can't... Well, you win some you loose some. It's a GAME!!!

BTW- If you're selling it on EBAY let me know. I would like to get an extra copy for some friends.

Also, if you really spent two days *total* on one galaxy, I would hope your empire would be far enough along to deal with most random events. It can be a back-breaker though sometimes. But, you can't expect to win all the time can you??

I really do hope you give the game another try. There is a lot to enjoy about this game. As Frogboy said, events have been adjusted according to difficulty level. (I think that's what he meant)

SIDE NOTE- It really shows the level of dedication and commitment Stardock has with this game when they even take the time to respond to someone who uses words such as "frickin toilet", "shit", "bullshit" and "Mother(f___er)" in a post about their experience with a product they created.

Please try to post complaints in a constructive manner. The people of Stardock are listening and working hard to make things even better.

I think the random events are awesome. Just like life, many times things happen that are NOT fair.. and are unbalancing and screw you up. As well as help you. Works for me! The key is coming back from it. If you do, it makes the victory that much sweeter IMO.

And the patch helped this.. woot. No complaints here.

When the Draginol come you do have to option of abandoning your planet instead. (at least on begginner) Anti-matter missles work really well against their uber-ships

I admit that the same thing happened to me, and I was also terribly irritated. These bastards took over the entire galaxy, outperforming us all!

So I switched tactics, went for culturular dominance, and won, despite taking terribly heavy losses.

frogboy said the `solution' to the `evil power' event is simple.

As soon as you get the warning, you build troop ships, and fill them with that planet's population. Then, the turn that the `evil power' takes over, you just attack the planet.

Just like the space monster special from the prison. They'll follow your space ship anywhere. I just lead them to other races spaceships, and the monsters blow up the other races ships! free military power!!!

Anyway, no spacesharks or any 'growing evil' you guys talking about has ever happened to me :( and, honestly, I am eagerly awaiting for it to happen in my current game so I can kick some serious butt (or have mine handed over to me) :notsure:

I handled the "prison break" event quite easily. At the time it happened, I'd developed dreadnought technology, and had already built some dreadnoughts - indeed, one of the ships was in orbit right above the prison planet! So it was child'd play to take that ship out of orbit and blast the three rogue "prison cruisers" to smithereens.

TLA-Russion: come back and tell us all how fun it was when this event happens to you. Maybe I'm just unlucky...4 games played, all at FOOl level..all ended by random events.
I guess youre LUCKY. Anyway, I now have a strategy and if I can figure out how to download the updates, I'm told the events are toned back on easier levels, which is as it should be. Full on hard levels should get everything thrown at you. Cakewalks should be....well calkwalks.

wamp: I know alot of people (including myself) got frustrated pretty fast with some of the game imbalancing random events. Hopefully Brad's changes will make your play experience fun again (games should be enjoyable, not anger provoking ;)).

The Draginol event doesn't have to end your game. See the other threads about it. I was able to destroy the Draginol and go on to win the game after the event took me by surprise. Sure, it was an incredibly extreme solution, but not unrealistic given the strength of the Draginol assault. Consider it an apocalyptic event.

...I'm just puzzled by how a game could last 2 days played on Fool level...

I don't want to sound insulting, but are you sure you understand the interface? After 2 days of play on Fool Level you should be cranking out shit that would blast the Dreng to pieces.

Like Kavok suggested, are you certain you're not missing some key piece of the strategy of the game...?

Ladies, and gentleman. Wampyre's outburst is a phenomenom I have seen before. Those rare games that have a great support base from the development team like Stardock tend to attract a certain type of gamer who feel the need to shout and whine and complain when a game doesn't go there way. They do this because it illicits a response from the developers who are very interested in supporting their product. This response in turn makes them feel more important, special, what have you. There are customarily such posts by users for all games that have a community forum, however on those games that have little or no support, these gamers tend to eventually disappear when they recieve no special attention from the community or the dev team, as they realise they are just yelling at the wall.

To some extent I can sympathize with these people, they feel cheated and frustrated by the faceless game company who promised them a product and didn't, in their mind, deliver. They feel the need to vent, and I don't blame them, it their right as a conusmer as I said myself in a previous post regarding another recently released 4x game. However, given encouragement, they will continue to deride the product even after their issues have been addressed by a development team that is interested in their oppinion. I believe though it can be annoying to those gamers who are more positive in their feedback, and suggestions, it is a small price to pay for the kind of support we get from development teams like Stardock.

I play for about 1-2 hours a night. My current game is Tiny, AI level to stupid and I've been playing for about 1 week now. I think I understand the game pretty much, but I am not as good as all of you with strategy. I do it my way. So I don't think he doesn't understand the game because I took him 2 days to finish one game.

Now for his other problems he should definitely browse the forums to find answers before complaining. >:(

This game is addictive, fun, intelligent and beautifull! That's all! :)

I have seen wampyre's name on the boards of other games, so I don't think he is a newby or incompetent. And after I had my first three games ended by the Draginol or Dark Lords, I felt Exactly as he did. However, the patch fixed the problem before I boiled over. As a matter of fact, it appeared to me to be an easily patchable problem, which is why I stuck with it after the first two tries. If the MOO3 people had issued small patches that fixed their most egregious problems, they could have preserved more of their customer base. I think Stardock is doing a fine job and I really like GalCiv, though there are a lot of things I would like to see added or fixed.

The solution to all random events and pitfalls is to save often. If you don't have the common sense to save your game at certain points, then yes you can be devastated by a random event. This game keeps you on your toes. If things go bad and I go back to an early save point to compensate,the AI reacts to my new path and creates new challenges for me. I am playing with normal and bright opponents and I am having a ball.

I totally agree. These whiners need to get their asses kicked from the forum. For all we know, they probably can't even update the game because they're using the PIRATED VERSION!

;p How many times have you had an AI by the "@#%&$" and then boom, you lose? I was shocked the first time the AI got sneaky on me and "left me for the other man". This game is like a rollercoaster, enjoy the ride LOL I love this game...MOO what?
