Concerning Advents culture "cannon"

Is this intentional?

During a game with the Advent, I occupied a star system flanked by 1 star on each side. When I had conquored the the first system, I built my first culture "cannon" (can't remember the proper name at this time) and thought "I'll just send a scout to the nearby enemy system, spot a planet, and fire a round and see what happens, eh?".
Fair enough, so my scout finds a enemy planet in the next system, I target it and fire it without thinking about the Huge distance between the stars.
I follow the projectile out of the system, and at this point it disappears off the screen. So I think "Well, of course! You can't fire a cannon and expect the projectile to hit another Planet in another Starsystem!".

So I forget about the projectile for 4-5 minutes.
In the meantime, I've set up an outpost in the star system I fired my round at. I actually manage to build a second cannon and fire it, when I suddenly notice my first round hit the planet I first designated.

Not that I'm complaining, but is it intentional that a cannons reach is virtually limitless? (Haven't experimented with how far away it can hit a target, nor with any of the other races cannons)

Cheers

AFAIK superweapons are supposed to only hit targets in the same system, so that may be a bug.

Gotta be then if it's not supposed to go outside the system. In the vid we made with Multi I could shoot my Kotsura at a planet in another system :P

I've been using my battery of culture cannons to go outsystem too.
