Diplomacy Idea

Hello,

Even though i haven't had a whole lot of time to play sins since release, i am liking it a lot. The only thing i have a bit of beef with is the whole diplomacy stuff (vs AI that is). It does'nt really feel like i can interact with the AI diplomatically in any way that makes a lot of sense. From the beginning they demand stuff and actions from me which i am not really inclined to do.

How do you guys handle stuff diplomatically? I think i could use some pointers :)

I also have an idea, it would be nice if the AI would send 'distress calls' or something when they are under attack and could need a hand. If you are close and help them out, they would naturally like you more, or even reward you a bit. The other way around you could send a distress call yourself, with or without a reward. (this could work like a reverse bounty system, ie if i put out money for help, it could be redeemed by attacking stuff that is attacking me :P)

This would add to the immersion of diplomacy IMO, as you are actually helping eachother out sometimes instead of just doing (silly) errands that seem to come out of nowhere.

One pointer I can give you is to pick a specific AI to try to ally with - pereferrably one that's right next to you, so you don't need to worry about attacks from two fronts :) Go out of your way to do his missions (but sometimes you'll have a hard time getting to the AI he wants you to kill), and after a few he'll like you enough for a cease fire. A few more and you can get a peace treaty, trade, all that good stuff - and you'll even be able to nudge him to send his ships where you need help, either to defend or attack :)

I completely agree.

Personally, I'd like two changes to the diplomacy system.

Make it accept "partial" completions, so when you kill 14 ships, but can't track down number 15 to finish the mission, you still get most of the reward.

Also, make the "primary" mission 'hurt player X', rather than 'destroy player x's ships/structures/defenses' -- still have those other missions, but make them more rare in comparison.
