Galaxy Forge Bug

Instant Defeat?

I tried creating my own little solar system using the Forge. It seems that whenever I try to load it into the game it results in an instant 'Defeat' screen.

This also happens with the tutorial map from Zoomba - load it into the game, 'play' -> as soon as the loading is finished: Defeat.

And thanks to you again psugar... I have now successfully mastered interstellar wormholes , not just those interplanetary ones.

Good to know. It does make the concept of the 'local' folders kinda moot though.

Any chance of fixing this? I like the idea of just grabbing my profile folders and burning them for backup. Plus, in the case of a reinstall it's very easy to forget the user-created content this way. :(

Nice Benji... hope to see those maps up soon.

Pndrev, I'm not sure. We could possibly add in another Galaxy-Forge-generated maps folder there, but I think we've already got two locations, plus potentially extra folders for mods and so forth... it may be too much. Will consider it for sure.

The problem is not the file, or the map, but where you put it. If you put it in "install directory"\Galaxy it works fine. If you put it in the "local settings"\ironclad games\sins of a solar empire\galaxy directory, you have that problem.
So there is nothing wrong with Galaxy forge.

For me it does not matter where I put it, I always get the error. I have tested it by just making a copy of an existing map and then opening it up in the editor and saving it, then I get the error.

Has this been resolved? A friend mentioned this a few days ago and so I thought to try it out as I want more control than the ingame editor. Eventually I got it working and saved a map for use at a future LAN party but struggled to get it into SoaSE (1.00 - Vanilla). Eventually I fiddled enough to find it sortof but generated a C++ crash. I have since moved it out of the game\SoaSE\galaxy folder into the users folder where it finds it but causes an auto defeat. Any suggestions? I read something about the program files galaxies directory but the only places I have SoaSE directories are the Vista directory, uninstall file only, Users and Games. Could it be a code clash between new map code and old SoaSE?

Also is it possible to preset teams/players yet? I attempted to set a 2x2x3x3 but find I am starting as player 5 on team 3 not player 1 team 1. Of course the autodefeat makes the point moot but still.

Hopefully still a few people lurking around these forums to help out ...

which version of sins are you trying to create a map for?

SoaSE V1.00 - I might try getting an update sometime, 1.04/1.05 but am in no rush to download anything large on dialup.

Galaxy Forge v1.03

the maps created with the 1.03 galaxyforge are for sins 1.03-5, to create maps for 1.00/1 you would need to locate a galaxyforge 1.01 which if my memory is correct can create maps for sins 1.00-1.04 (map version 0) date 1/2/2008

to edit maps for 1.05 you would need the galaxyforge 1.05 which is for 1.05-1.09 (map version 1) date 14/3/2008

to edit maps for 1.10-1.14 you would need the galaxyforge 1.1(map version 2) date 18/11/2008

and for sins 1.15- you shoudl use galaxyforge 3 (map version 3) date 27/2/2009

oh and the instant defeat is probably because all the players NEED a home planet

hope this info helps

Thanks for the info. Obviously I shall have to try and download a public patch from somewhere or an old galaxy forge.

I did give every player a Terran Home but perhaps if I solve the other issues ...

OK, so i personally have the files in this area: C:\Users\User Name\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\GalaxyForge (Vista)

Also, anohter thing i notcied causing crashes is if there are too many player files and not enough homeworlds. To fix this, go to edit at the top of the screen, and under the player management area, disable all except the ones you are using. this often made my files work.

as riviaguy suggests deleteing any un-wanted players in the 'edit' 'players' menu item should solve the problem especially if you edited a mapdesigner map in galaxy forge.

the c errors are probably due to the map having lines that the original sins 1.00 did not undertand.

you could try editing the galaxy file by hand and comparing your file with a stock map line by line. if there is no comparable line in the stock map (do not worry about numbers) then delete it and also alter the version number in the second line

hope this helps

Thanks guys. I can see the map and play it now that I have updated to 1.05 however there are two unresolved issues.

#1 I cannot start as player 1, instead for some reason I am starting as player 5. Given this is a 2v2v3 map I am starting on the wrong team! I realise planet start locations are not fixed, I have started in different team 3 planet positions which is annoying for customised player content but not critical, but I am supposed to be player 1 team 1. I am hoping to use this for a LAN party and could get someone else to host but it is really annoying for single player purposes. I cannot see any content differences, other than team, in the galaxy file and am confused about why this selection. It makes no sense.

#2 The map is rotated around the X & Y axis so that what should be the bottom is the top and the left the right. Not critical and while I can change the camera angle to restore the bottom to where it should inversion means that I go up when I try to scroll down and vice versa (possibly fixed/Need to double check), plus the planet to the far right of the map is now far left. Not critical just confusing and irritating.

Any advice or solutions will be greatly appreciated!

Cyberarian-

On the solarsins.filefront.com site, there is the v1.05 patch, v1.05 GF, and v1.05 PF (Particle Forge). The patch is 16.66 MB in size, the GF is 2.85 MB, and PF is 2.99 MB.

cyberarian edit the map changing the line

randomizeStartingPositions TRUE to randomizeStartingPositions FALSE

this will make sins use the player positions that YOU choose, and for fixed teams you can edit in the teamindex number to each of the players to the team you want them in (-1 no team,0-9 team number)

hope this helps

Whiskey I grabbed the v1.05 patch and it enabled me to play the map I created in 1.03. I don't think I need particle forge just the map editor. Harpo there's no starting position command that I can see but I have adjusted the Team Indexes. Here is the galaxy file minus the planets. Urgh that came up awful!!! I have tried switching teams 0 & 2 with each other to see if that makes any difference but alas no.
