Whats the point of pre-order?

Whats the point of pre-order?

Not really sure why someone would pre-order, then wait for a key when you can just "Buy Now" and get it faster.

Did I miss something? Seems pre-ordering just put an obstacle up in the process.

I guess it's not too surprising that the apologists are making an effort to justify this situation. I noticed quite a few people were trying quite hard to justify the state of Hellgate London when it was launched too. I guess when you have people that follow a game for years you tend to get a subset that believes they "can do no wrong". It's okay to say a company that you respect has messed up - things go wrong, people make mistakes. You don't need to come up with flimsy justifications and flawed analogies.

Speaking of flawed analogies...how about that one comparing a failed, broken, half-completed POS claiming to be an aRPG with a finished, polished RTS/4X which hasn't broken any promises as of yet...Please. Take a breath, grow up, and get over this "the world revolves around me" and "I want everything now, right NOW".

I preordered this yesterday, and I just got my serial numbers, that fine. I didn't have to wait too long to get access to it, but there really is no way to justify pre-orders having to wait until after people purchasing on the day. It's just not a good way to treat your customer base, and especially not your most loyal fans.

I hope you're not including yourself in there. Preorder the day before and you got it today, before it hits retail, and two months before it hits retail in some countries? Man, some people got it soooo rough.

There is no way to say this is okay, it isn't. Hopefully people won't end up waiting too long, and this won't happen again with future launches.

How many people here are honestly still waiting for the game from pre-orders, and more importantly, how many of these "delays" are in fact due to user error (credit card not being cleared, etc.--two of the relatively few cases I've seen)? This situation is being blown waaaaay out of proportion *sigh*

People need to grow up and suck it up, it's still release day, and it could be worse. You could be downloading at 5-40kbps, and have the download cancelled (t/o to server) 1/4 into your three hour class and come back to it at 50% instead of finished as you thought it would...7 hours+ after you started the DL. Man, life sure is tough guys, I can't get my video game RIGHT NOW!!! Lol please.

Sadly, Its not in the list, although I do have an order confirmation number (that I don't plan on giving out over the forum). I actually have two, one normal from 10 o clock, and one from the declined third attempt. The second one, I didn't even receive the order confirm number, I was just randomly billed.

Edit: As an aside, I apologize for the tone of my previous post. I understand technical glitches happen, and I'm caught up in a particularly bad one it seems. Its no ones fault really, and I shouldn't be blaming it on the customer service of Stardock. I just hope it'll be cleared up soon. I really do want to play the game, because like I mentioned, it reminds me of a game I hold quite fondly in my memories, 'Stars!'

Stars! was very similar to your game (infact I'd suspect partly it was inspiration, it bears a striking similarity). It was highly customizable, games were of epic scale, and you sent ships across entire galaxies. Stars! however was turn based, and being of the Windows 3.1/95 era, a much simpler graphical display. Still, it had a wealth of hidden depth, and near infinitesimal game possibilities. Sadly, its discontinued now.

Still, are the preorders still processing? I really do want to get this resolved.

I have not bothered to read this thread after the first couple posts. The ignorance is astounding to say the least.

Preorder = Access to beta + key in hand when game is released a.k.a. instant DL when released. Pure and simple.

You know. I actually owe everyone here a full apology. The error was one from my credit card, not Stardocks in any way shape or form. I recieved an email first thing in the morning, spoke directly with a person when I called in who was immediately willing to solve the problem. When I purchased the game again, no errors, and I am now enjoying an excelently created piece of software.

I was wrong, and I apologize.

Kyro can I make a rather aggressive suggestion OVERHAUL your friggin system. In my case what was the point in pre-ordering the CE paid the money then waited and got a payment failure emails with a weak excuses "couldn't use the first transaction" and "had to do a separate transaction" now my bank account is now locked till next week since i didn't authorise the second tranaction. Before people start wondering why i have to personally auth no signature transaction is because I had my wallet stolen a while back and the gutless terp went on an online spending spree, this is to stop terps from doing things like that.

3Havoc. I've worked in a supervisor position for a credit card company (can't disclose which), and sadly it happens. Heres what you need to do.

Call Stardock tommorow at 9EST, press 1 for sales. Tell them you need to get the pending authorization on your card removed so you can purchase (or not). You will need to conference call your bank or credit card company, because they will need to verify your information for security, and they need the merchant to give transaction code and merchant ID.

Honestly, like I said, this happens more than you'd like to think. When your card is attempted to be billed, the funds are held to stop you from abusing electronic payment. So even before the money goes out, funds are held. Its the same thing with gassing up your car, you may take $30 in gas, but they can hold up to $90 in pending authorizations.

Unfortunately, the authorizations don't always clear, leaving you with a card with held funds. If the card just wipes out the transaction, they could be defrauding the gas company the money for the gas you took. The merchant needs to call with you to give the ok to clear it off. Or they can fax a void authorization form, but that takes hours at the earliest.

If its any consolation, the game is definitely worth it. I was where you were one day ago, and my opinion has completely flipped.

I used to work for one of the largest banks in Australia, doing EFTs SWIFTs and other transactions, I used to have to deal with people who get these problems, its not pleasant having an angry customer on the phone. I am sure the game is excellent but the pre-order and electronic funds system used isn't I still intend to get boxed ed of the game from stardock. The independant transaction is canned I am not sure about the first one since but even if it was my account will still be locked for another 4 working days, I am not going to waste another 4 hours waiting on the phone with my bank and have achieved nothing. Out of polite curtosity I am refraining from calling as I have a slight tendenacy to become a real bastard, I am sure my circumstances weren't deliberately meant but it has caused me no end of fustration and rage.

If what you mean by EFT is what I think it is. I =hated= those. The only thing we ever really had to fill out paperwork for.

EFT, electronic fund transfers is what I meant, the one I really hated doing are SWIFTs forgot what it stands, when it goes through its great but when it doesn't your screwed if the money doesn't surface.

Ok, no. I meant emergency fund transfers. A situation where someone loses their card and needs you to forward them like, $500 so they can get home, or needs you to send them a temporary card via a bank. Theres so much paper work involved in that its not funny.
