Random/Customized Maps?

hi guys, i'm just wondering if this game will feature (or even exclusively be based on) random maps/or customly created maps as in other 4X games. i.e. in the beginning you select the size of the galaxy, how many planets, numbers of enemies etc. Or will it be strictly mission based with a coherent single player story like in other RTSs like starcraft or warhammer40k. thanks for any comments.

Yes, there are random maps. While we don't have a lot of control over the nature of the randomization with current builds, they've promised to return that control to us by release (it was disabled for beta3/4 because of bugs in multiplayer testing).

Edit: There are also "predesigned" maps before you ask about that -- each planet's position chosen by the map designer.

There are close to 30 pre-designed scenario maps included, plus a built-in map designer that can also be used in multiplayer. :)
