Beta 4B of The Political Machine is now up with lots of bugs fixed, play balancing, and more interview questions.

PLEASE try this beta out and let us know how it's working for you! We are getting pretty close to going gold so we want to ensure that everything is working. We have done various things to the videos to see if we have improved video compatibility.

CariElf, how can I find your e-mail address?

While playing in Campaign Mode as George W. Bush, I was in the third rung - Dick Gephardt -- and had just won. In the summary screen, just after beating him, the game crashed to desktop and I am no longer able to get into campaign mode -- it crashes to desktop each and every time, now. I've done what you told JoshuaN to do, and I'd like to mail my debug.err to someone, but don't know any of your email addresses.

If anyone else is having that issue with campaign mode reported above, download http://mi.stardock.com/private/CampaignLadder.Ladder and place that in the .\polmachine\data subdir. That should take care of it for today.

Joshua, what is "forceware"?


If I'm not mistaken, ForceWare is the name NVidia gives to its drivers for the type of video card he has. 56.72 is the latest WHQL driver set for GeForce videocards.

Slightly tweaked build to improve logging of serial number issues to debug.err. Please
send that file to cbegle@stardock.com if you are getting a message about serial
numbers on startup.

This build also adds some additional detection and logging routines to try and
track down some of the reported issues with some nvidia card models. If you
have trouble loading the game or displaying the main map, please email us that
debug.err from the PM directory.

Include when the game seemed unhappy about it as well (loading, map display, etc).

Also a tweak to the campaign mode in this one. You should be able to compete
against Al Gore now when playing as a Republican.

I'm afraid I have another one-off issue, and it doesn't actually cause an exception to be thrown, so I can't give you guys anything like that.

I'm playing as George W. Bush in Campaign Mode, and am up to Bill Clinton; he whooped my butt the first time, and when I went to play the second time, he just stayed in Arkansas and didn't use any of his stamina points. When I hit "turn", it grayed out and waited for Clinton, who was just sitting there, I presume having a "chat" with David Bossie or Cliff Jackson...

Peter, can you please e-mail a screenshot of your errors to kwilas@stardock.com?

Also, do you get any difference running in windowed mode? To run in windowed mode, create a shortcut to Polmachine.exe. Right click on the shortcut, select properties. In the target field, put a space followed by a w. You can also add a space and the word debug to make PM generate more debug info.

If you don't have stardock central, you'll want to install that. Here's a link:

Once you have stardock central installed and you've registered your drengin.net serial number from the e-mail that you received, click the show pre-release versions
checkbox.

As for windowed mode, it is somewhat strange - it does not show intro movie at all, and then runs in full screen mode. Only difference is that with "w" intro does not work, without it intro works.

As for "debug", it seems that there is plenty of useful info in debug.err. As I am into business software, it does not give me anything useful - but can help you

Everything is sent, and I wish you good luck. I spent countless hours of fun with Corporate machine, and I lokk forward to Political machine as well. Sorry for causing you trouble....

Peter, see below. Intro movie in windowed mode should be happy now.

Fix for movie playing in windowed mode.
Additional internal fixes.
Credits screen still unhappy.

If you are having crashing problems with this build, is it when
the intro movie tries to play or does it skip the intro movie entirely?

If you are having crashing issues on startup of any sort,
please post a brief mention again in the forums on PoliticalMachine.com
and include the card type, driver (if known), and if you are on an Intel
or AMD processor.

For anyone reporting triangle problems on the main map, do you
have SP1 installed? And are you on an English build of XP or an
international version?
