What the frack is up with Netflix and not having Blu-ray
... for some titles?!?
Sorry for those pulled in by the headline that don't see the sub-title that continues the thought (limited space in the headline area, sorry).
My question is what the frack is up with Netflix and not having Blu-ray disc copies on their release dates for several recent titles.
For example, Rush Hour 3 released this past weekend. I could go to stores to buy it on Blu-ray if I cared to waste my money doing so (I expect it to be fairly lame, so would much prefer to see it as a rental, hence my looking for it on Netflix). Even today, still not showing as available in Blu-ray format at Netflix. Why not?!?!!?
Or, coming up next week, Shoot 'em up. Again, releases on Blu-ray on Jan. 1, 2008 (so it actually would be out over the weekend), but yet again Netflix shows as DVD only at this time.
Now, please understand, I'd still prefer HD DVD to win the war or at least to keep up the pace with the Blu-ray side, but I can't figure out what is going on with Netflix. I'd really like to avoid switching to Blockbuster. They have their own problems delivering content on a timely basis for me, and worse yet they just sent out notice to their current members that they are in-line for paying a $2 - $10 per month increase in fees to keep their membership. Add in more restrictions and cut-backs in bonuses that used to exist in the Blockbuster Total Access plan and you'd find that I really don't want to have to switch to those folks.
For now I've dropped both titles from my rental list. I guess I'll wait until Netflix gets them in Blu-ray or just wait even longer for them to show up on cable. Meanwhile I'll have to check the release lists and see if I can come up with something I'd like to see to keep some value coming out of my rental que.
