Error when launching GalCiv II using GC2Launch.exe

When I start GalCiv II using GC2Launch.exe (which Stardock Central and the GalCiv II start menu shortcut points to), I get this error:
"Error running GalCiv II:
Object doesn't support this property or method
Please ensure the game Is installed correctly. If so, try running it from the start menu."
The error box is titled VBScript.
If I don't click OK or when I do, the game automatically starts and runs fine.
Should I start GalCiv II using GalCiv2.exe instead? When I do that the game runs fine, also.
I'm running Windows 2000 SP4 with all updates except for IE 6. I use Opera or Firefox as my browser, so I didn't feel the need to change from IE 5.01. I feel that IE 5.01 is more secure than IE 6, and I never use IE anyway.
My comp. specs are:
Athlon 64 3700
1 GB RAM
Asus K8N-E
Radeon X800XT All-in-Wonder
All drivers and software are up to date.
I also have GalCiv I, and it runs fine. No error messages at all when it starts and runs.
