Cool idea for Multiplayer

(maybe a little farfetched)

So, I came up with this really cool idea for multiplayer but, I have know idea if it would even be slightly possible. I was thinking that if you were playing online and you traveled to a new galaxy, you would be joining into a game already going.

Like i said before, I have no idea if this would be possible but...just imagine the terror of players when a giant fleet comes bursting into their system from nowhere. Muahahaha

Yeah haha, i like your idea, but i dont think we are ever going to see this, unless the game becomes a MMO.

Ditto. And what would happen if people logged off? It just couldn't work Kiernyc.

lol i also realized something else....It's kind of already like this because, If you are playing with 10 people, they aren't all going to start in the same galaxy so you won't see some players for a ways in. That's kind of like joining another game just going to another galaxy lol.

You know I was actually thinking of somethign that involves galaxies though(or a galaxy).

Once we get Clans going and clan competitions star up I think that the top ten Clans should be represented with a color and based on their score own a piece of the galaxy. As score changes so does precentage of control.

If we really want to make this top notch I think it would be cool to like have the galaxy map be compossed of regions that a player or a group of players from another tribe could chose to attack or defend. Then a player from an adjacent tribe would be called to the game and whether someone wins or loses depends on how the map changes.

Yes! Exactly! I had actually suggested something like this on a post titled "What is the community's opinion of competitive multiplayer?" on Reply#30 back on July 25. It's great to see that others want something like this as well.   To save the time that would be spent searching for the post, I will restate my suggestion below:

"I think it would be great to have a Conquer the Galaxy mode where your victory in a specific star system added it to your territory on the galactic map. C&C has something like this called World Domination, and MechAssault 2 had a Conquest multiplayer mode where each planet conquered was tracked on the galactic map. It would be fun to sit down to a long, hard battle over a star system and later, after your hard won victory, go onto a screen which showed all star systems under control of your faction, including the one you just conquered. It would add a sense of purpose and accomplishment to the time you devoted to a long multiplayer game. Or what if there were a cooperative campaign or two complete with objectives and storyline, for those of us who don't spend a whole lot of time vs. other players but want a more meaningful co-op battle? True, it may be to late to implement any of this, but sooner or later a patch, expansion pack, or sequel to this game will roll out, giving the developers a second, third, or more chances to add these ideas, and more. Just a few thoughts..."

Although for good ideas of multiplayer maps, you should reference this post. P5y had some really great ideas. Great job!

Exactly, I really want this in, if anything does go in

I think meta-games were proposed before, but that was said to be something that'd have to go into an expansion.

I found a trailer of MechAssault 2 that somewhat, though not exactly illustrates the concept in the above reply. It is a short trailer on gametrailers.com entitled "Conquest". I'm not sure how to link it, but the address is below:

I like this idea. I felt my ears droop when I discovered how 'small' SINS would actually be. I'd always imagined the ability to have say 3 clusters, with 5 suns, and 10 planets each, giving ALOT of planets to fight over (150 by my math), and have it 'turn based', in that you would play for like 2 hours, and then save the game. And then you could come back and play later on (like in a week).

So instead of having short 2 hours skirmishs, you could actually battle it out over 10s of hours. There are heaps of games that are play-by-mail that work well (players submit there turn orders a few times a week, so game takes a few months to play out), I don't see why SINS cannot have this as well. I mean, you can play single-player, and save partway through a mission, it would be exactly the same for this big campaign, just bigger still >_>

This idea seems even better after watching the videos Multi made, and seing they did like 7% of the research LOL... It seemed to be though that it was actually well balance, the number of units was manageable, and not too overwhealming. I imagine some scripting and automation will have to be developed for something of this size to be pulled off.

Anyways, I doubt any of this will happen, its a bit too late with only a few months before release. But I'd like the devs to do gamers a service, and make the game modeable as. So the only thing we cannot change is the engine, then we'd be happy

You can't do that in multiplayer, but single player is quite doable. None of the current "preset" maps go that far, but a little modding could achieve that once they return the old system to us.

1. you can't? some people have made custom maps, so is it not possible to make larger ones with like 20+ stars in beta 3?

2. why in sp and not in mp? never tried either, but just be so nice, to enlighten me.

meta-games? is that something like a where theres an online map witch territory that can be fought on?
if thats it, im 127% into that idea
Games really need to have new kinds of new playable options, and i hope sins will have something new

Yes, but thats outside the range of your average player ATM.

Because if you change the gameplay constants to increase the fleet cap, you can't play multiplayer without finding someone who's made the exact same changes.

well, sorry dig around, but one way to do something like this is if you do it on a seperate galactic map a bit like in Rise of Nations or that Warhammer expansion Dark Crusade.

Basically, you have a big graphical galactic map with many unnkown systems. every time a game is played, the outcome determines to which race the sector will afterwards belong. that way you can keep track of what race is winning and so on. but thats the rather simple and actually useless version.

the other is if you rally implement a strategic mode where you can select which sectors to attack/ defend, what sort of materiel and ressources you are bringing and so on. so there is a variety of sectors representing the different game types and map sizes and every time on particular configuration is chosen it means that a certain sector on the uber-map is attacked and again the outcome determines who later owns the sector.

but then again, this would take so much additional programming and it would take away this feeling that you can zoom out from afar to close up. plus, if system ownership meant having a presence there, then obviously the attacking party needs to bring some advantage, like I said, materiel, ships, ressources. but how are they collected and who allocates them? probably, all this is more trouble than it is worth.

but nice though anyway trying to evolve this more into a sort of living galaxy.
