Massive Frustration

I'm *TRYING* to play this game, which everybody tells me is the greatest thing since Civilization I, and after about THREE turns, the stupid TURN button becomes inactive, I've moved ALL my ships, checked ALL my planets, and the (*&(^%*&^T(*&^)*&^) GAME WON'T LET ME CONTINUE!!!!!!

Now, is there any way around this or have I just blown forty bucks on a POS?????

Ok, let's breathe in, breathe out. ok, let's start over.
did you click on auto-turn (menu, top of screen, in left column)
Auto turn will do a turn after you have handled all the actions, such as skipping a ship that has moves still to do.

Wierdness. But since I've not heard of one other person with this problem, if you are going to reference a POS, you might want to check out your computer instead.. ;p

Seriously though, the devs have been wonderful about helping those with issues. No need to go postal over the problem. LOL

Post it in the bugs thread.

Once you have done all the actions required, and you click on FIND, you hear an audio byte, to let you know there are no more moves. That is the time to check your planets and different screens (domestic, research, diplomacy, etc). Once that is done click on TURN.
If it's a small galaxie if should be immediate. The TURN button turns to a clock (sort of) when it is calculating, that should be apparent in the larger games.

You then get News of what was built during that turn. Send you new ships in space if required.
If you click on FIND, you will start cycling thru all of you ships that have reached their destinations, or that have been put in space.
Can you confirm this behavior?

Hmmm... Not sure if this is the same thing, but I think I've had something similar happen although it was only once. I clicked turn button, it changed to the clock, and then it stayed as the clock until I gave up and just started a new game. This was early early game (hence the restart). This was on 'idiot' level so I doubt the AI would've had much thinking to do ;)

It has happended to me a few times, I clicked for another screen, and it returned to normal. I cannot explain it, and I beleive it has been reported.

Hitting ENTER instead of clicking on the turn button also seems to help free this up if it locks.

Could it be that this is the effect of a sticking mouse button that I seem to encounter from time to time? It happens that if I drag around the map view and release the button, the map view still sticks to the cursor; but that normalizes after some clicking.

I've had the sticking mouse button on the map, too. Actually, I thought it was a feature ;) Then I found out it wasn't.

what I have found is that if you have any screens activated (planet screen, diplomacy screen, etc) the turn will not end. You need to click back to your galaxy screens, then the turn will end. Hope this helps.

If you have a turn that won't end, make sure that you don't have a planet screen open on the right. Thought a turn was taking rather long, then realized a colony ship had auto moved and was waiting for me to select a planet to colonize. :)

I'm a bit of a control freak, so I shut auto-turn off. That way I know for certain the turn is over, and I simply advance to the next turn. I've never had a problem doing things my prefered method. Yeah, I do that with all TBS games. :p

same here, ElfPhoenix. Auto-turn is off all the way, and I never have problems with that

I've had the same problem. It always seems to happen in a subscreen. As soon as i click on the Galaxy view map, then i can click the "TURN" button

I have had this too, but for me it seemed linked to the music. If I go to the options screen, turn the music off and then back on again, all is fine.

I have had this and everytime it turned out that my colony ship had arrived at the star I sent it to and was waiting to me to pick a planet. ( looks like a regular star system listing )

I was also having a problem with the turn button turning into a timer icon and never coming back. I turned off the auto-save, and it hasn't happened to me since, at least not yet. It seemed to be happening (at least to me,) while AI ships were fighting while the game was trying to autosave. I noticed on the occasions that it was happening to me, that the AI battles began moving very slowly and the timer wouldn't switch back to the turn button. Pressing ALT+Tab then the windows key a couple of times would usually get it to minimize for me within a couple of minutes. I was then able to ALT+Tab back in and then the AI battle would finish, and the timer would turn back to the turn button. If I used CTRL+ALT+DEL and closed the program that way, the savegame would be corrupted when I tried to load it back up (you know, the familliar 'red screen, drop to desktop' corruption.) That's what first led me to believe it was 'autosave' related. Since I turned the autosave off, the turn button has not gotten 'stuck' as the timer icon anymore, I just have to remember the old golden rule of 'save often'. :)
