Enough with toggleable options

Making a feature toggleable doesn't make it doable

So I've noticed that everytime a feature that the devs say probably not to is posted, people cry out "Make it an optional feature! You can either play with it or without it!"

This doesn't make it anymore possible than having it as a mandatory feature. It's one thing if all it is is for show, and enabling it would just use more CPU. But most of this comes in the form of things like orbits, debris (which despite the devs saying it's there just not in beta yet people keep creating new threads about), and really just about everything else people talk about.

If it involves a gameplay feature that is not already in the game, then implementing it now requires more time, money, and effort to be spent on it in the form of coding it alone. They then have to balance it, which takes more time, money, and effort.

If it involves a gameplay feature that is already in the code, they just decided to disable it because they thought it unnecessary, they still have to balance it.

If they think that half the people who buy this game will use a feature, and half won't, then give IC and SD some credit, they will be smart enough to put it in as an optional feature. However, if they think that only 10% of the people who buy the game will use it, it won't be cost effective to add it at all. And while IC and SD are all benevolent and such, they are still just two companies (no offense) who are trying to make a profit. So please, stop saying toggle for everything.

Another thing, please use the search feature. I'm sick of seeing 20 posts about the same new feature you want implemented (exaggeration of course). The devs are more likely to read your suggestion if you all stick to one post, and they can organize their responses better too.

I'm with you advalary.
if the devs release it, it will be in the form of a mod, not an "optional" game element.

Well i like the way they are doing it. It forces us to concentrate more on serten areas. Maybe some things are not even need our attention to make it great. Oh and surprises for later (marketing stunt).
I for one would like to see some stuff only revealed at release or close to.

im not sure what your saying? you want them to stop saying toggle for serten things in the game?

Then make yourself feel better by helping a fellow noob just tell them its been discussed before and give them a link.

Hehe, we are on the ball, yup.

Multiple posts on the same topics are bound to happen as a matter of course. Someone new sees 3+ pages of new threads and just isn't going to read them all (heck - we have a hard time doing it!). That's why we've asked people to post in the two primary stickied threads, though that hasn't worked out so well in Beta 2 (as people tend to ignore stickies as well).

Bad habit of every single forum... and one that tends to "snowball" like mad.
