GalCivII Gold Edition: transferred from old system; missing Gold Edition icons

Should I install from the original media again?

I recently transferred my games over from WinXP to Vista using the archive utility in SDC. While in WinXP, there was a Gold Edition icon set in the Program Files that I used to start the game. When I restored my archive via SDC in Vista, it created the two separate GCII and GCII:DA icons (and I had to activate both separately) but there's no "Gold Edition".

Now, you might be thinking "why would this matter?" Well, it doesn't matter for playing the game, as either of those other icons seem to work just fine. The odd thing is how the game shows up in the Games viewer: "Galactic Civilizations 2 [1995]" It also doesn't seem to keep track of my "last played".

The question, then, is whether this is just because GCII and Vista don't get along in terms of the Games viewer or if installing from the original media would correct these issues? If it's the latter, can I just install over top of what I have, essentially "repairing" the install and have all my saves and such be left untouched?

Not a big issue, I know, but it's the first of my games that I've moved to Vista and I just want to get it right.

It should, though you'd need to re-patch up to the latest version afterward.

The main reason it behaves differently is probably just because SDC handles GC2 and DA as individual items when you install that way, rather than as a unit as the Gold installer treats it.

Thanks for the reply. If I feel it worth the trouble, I'll go ahead and reinstall over top (backing up first, of course). Everything works fine right now, after all.
