Hate to admit it - a noobee question

Most TBS stuff I've played generally (whoa - two ambigs in six words) result in all moves taking place within a complete turn. In other words, select A, tell A to move to or toward X, and the result following the "turn", is that A has accomplished the move and yields a reportable result or is moving to X.
So far in Gal-Civ I seem to be getting that basic approach, but with a "turn" (using button) I seem to get mixed results: some ships move (as above) and some do not. But if I select a ship (for example the Hero), and then select a destination (usually within visible range), the sprite takes off and accomplishes the task and I get some message to the effect of (found good stuff or waste of time).
It seems that what I'm looking for is an option (that I've missed and don't know how to set that completes all moves to a final state) or I'm not understanding the "turn - move" relationship.
Any help in understanding would be appreciated. Other than that, I am enjoying the game immensely... very good fun. I'm making no editorial comments beyond that... i.e., not going there until later.

The game advances to the next turn automatically when all ships have moved. You can turn off this feature after the game has started in the settings dialog.

Go to the top center of the screen and click on the "menu" button. A screen will appear that has many options, including the "autoturn" option mentioned by Desslok. Another important option to your question is "next turn skips ships with moves". I play with both of these options off because I want a firm boundry between turns and I don't want to miss moving ships if I should accidentally hit the turn button too soon.

All players new to Galciv should review all of those options as soon as your galaxy is created for your first game.

I'll take that advice. I think there's more to my question than this, but let me work along these lines for a while and learn some more. Thanks.

AncientAge,
ships that you move manually, move the moment you move them. This includes whips which you send to a far off destination, in that they move the first part and then change to autopilot. Ships on autopilot move at either the END of your turn or in sequence. So after you move a ship manually, you may then see an autopilot ship move. When you finally hit 'end turn' you see the remaining autopilot ships moving.
Remember that ships you've only just put on autopilot (by choosing a far off destination) will then NOT move until the END of your next turn. This sometimes looks a bit strange.

Paul,

That makes sense and seems to parallel what I'm seeing - hence my question. Does look a little strange - will just have to get used to it I suppose. Thanks.
