Changing race color

Is there any way to change race color after a game has started? I didn't realize until long after I started playing that if I had used any color other than black, I'd actually be able to see my ships when the view is zoomed far out...
I've taken a look at the save file in the hex editor, but I was unable to find the appropriate bytes.
