once a new ship has been built. . .

it goes into orbit of the colony that built it. is there any way to set an option to have the ship not go into orbit? i ask because sometimes i forget that a ship has been built, and it just sits there in orbit with never a prompt asking what i want to do with it... such as a ship that has just arrived at an autopilot destination, and waits for orders.

any thoughts, folks?

Yet another 'rally point' request... I sense a pattern :)

The Powers That Be have already mentioned the addition of a filter to the ships list, presumably including one that shows only idle ships. This should help the situation somewhat.

I've played several games now, 2 in a medium universe, and so far I haven't really missed having rally points... but I can see how they could be useful. The way Space Empires IV does them is quite appealing, and should work well in GalCiv,but I guess we'll just have to wait and see :)

Try this. The mini in the upper right hand corner has several settings icons just below it. One setting, I think its "show population", will highlight each planet with a globe of color. When a ship is orbiting a planet this sphere of color will be lighter than where no ships are orbiting. By looking at the map its really simple to see where you have ships in orbit.

Im pretty sure the "show pop" icon causes this. I'll check it out and if im wrong ill post again.

Also rally points would be nice. And a way to turn of the "auto-next-unit-skipping-all-over-the-place" feature. I would rather hit a button and skip to the next activity or unit myself.

Better yet, just double click the ships you want out of orbit in the small "ships" window when you are in the production screen. Since you always zoom to the planet production screen after building a ship this seems like a good habit to get into.

I realized my previous solution doesnt help with planets that have a ship garrison. Though it does work for planets without a garrison safe from the front lines :)
