Upgrading Core Designs

Hi,

I've found that in version 1.4X (Dread Lords) that you can upgrade the core designs and change modules/weapons/engines/etc, yet I don't know if doing this will overwrite the original design, rendering me unable to use it until the later techs if I upgraded it at that point in the game. What I am hoping is that I can save it as a new design like a Mark 1/2/3/etc like the AI does.

If you save them with unique names the originals won't be overwritten.

In fact it's impossible to overwrite a core ship, the game won't allow you to. You're required to give it a different name.

One thing I found out is that if you do name a ship the same as a core design, say Battleship, it'll give your battleship design a lower case b.
