Gal Civ II nothing but problems

I recently purchaced and installed GalCiv II Dark Avat. For some reason the game ramdomly crashes every few hours. Vista reports that Gal Civ Dark Ava has stopped working. I spent all day yesterday talking with a Customer service rep in order to get the game to install properly and then once I got it working I soon found a bug (if you modify a preexisting class as your race it saves that race as your default custom race and there is no way to reset it without going and deleteing your ini file). I can not get the game running on my laptop which runs xp home. Also while I was playing the game out of nowhere pops a million Pirates who wipe the entire galaxies fleets out. I mean I understand putting a couple of pirates in but so many that they wipe out every kingdoms entire fleet???. I am an avid gamer and I could make a list longer than this page of the games I play and to be completely honest I have had more trouble with Gal Civ II than all of the other games I have played in the past year combined. This is very upsetting as the game could be one of the best games ever. Now I know someone is going to come on and say download program X and run it and wait until the game crashes and send us the report but frankly I shouldn't have to do that, that should have been done by a beta tester, moreover I am sick of wasting my time messing with this game. The Devs need to clean this up ASAP.

As far as I know GC2 is reported to run fine on Vista in principle, but I'm not sure if this is an official recommendation/guarantee.

Regarding the pirates, I think you're talking about the so-called "mega event", these special events (intended to topple over whole games) can be deactivated if you prefer. That would be the right settings for players new to the game I guess.

Oh, the debug.err file should be in the main Dark Avatar folder (usually ...something...\GalCiv2\DarkAvatar).

Please go to C:\Program Files\Stardock\Totalgaming\GalCiv2 (or wherever you installed the game at), open the debug.err file you find there in notepad, and copy/paste the contents into a post here. If this is a DA report, you'll find the debug in C:\Program Files\Stardock\Totalgaming\GalCiv2\DarkAvatar instead. This will give us some technical information that can help troubleshoot your problem.

Be sure to copy the debug immediately after the error occurs; if you start the game again, the debug will be erased and recreated for the new session.

Do note that if you run under a limited account, the game may be unable to write a debug report. If this is the case, try running the game under an administrator account.
