How exactly does upgrading work...?

Anyone ever figure it out?

Quick question: how exactly does upgrading work? Does upgrading say, a basic factory to a factory, cost as much as a building a factory on an empty tile (75 mps) or is there some sort of discount?

What about upgrading unrelated improvement types, say, a farm to a factory or a research academy to a morale building?

seposedly there is a discount.

I say 'seposedly' because i don't see any benefit in game.

For example, if i want to upgrade a lab to a neutrality learning centre and it says '20 turns' and then i also queue a neutrality learning centre on an empty space it will also say '20 turns'.

Or if i want to rush buy a neutrality learning centre on a lab it will cost $5000bc (i forget the exact cost). Then if i want to rush buy a neutrality learning centre on an empty space it will also be $5000bc.

Hi!

There is a some discount for buildings of the same type. However if you upgrade to another type of building, it sometimes costs you MORE than a new building would cost. Before actually building/upgrading you better check its costs in planet list: on chosen planet click the project and in a pop-up window you'll see the exact cost of it (but with current version of the game the wrong finish time).
