Terror star construction

How do you build your Terror Stars and what defending ships do you use when you move them?

I usually smack em full of goodies before I get them snailing along..
And for defence a couple of battleships and 10-20 anti-matter missles works great for me!

I haven't build a Terror Star recently, but I have usually ecorted them/it with a pair of Avatar Battleships, an Overlord and a trio of Frigates. :d

I tend not to use terror stars to attack planets. It's easier to use your firepower and invade. Using them as command centres adding to the attack values, defense values and speed of ships is nice. I do use them to convert planets though. I always max out defense BEFORE building into a terror star.

I build them close to the area I want them and fill them up with defensive, offensive, and cultural upgrades, making the conversion to terror star last and then move them into the alien territory. They never have to fire a shot. The defections are very fast.

never built one with GC for win, did it a few times in os2, but i find it expensive to destroy and loose a good planet that you could conquer.
do you loose the terror star once you used it?

Its keeps on rolling after destroying a planet.

I usually use it with full cultural upgrades to force defenctions rather than killing systems.

Terror Star with cultural palace has a big impact.
Still waiting to upgrade one to a party palace.

Yep. Building a mobile Party Palace is much more fun than actually using a Terror Star. It allows you a mobile cultural influence generator that's like smacking the attacked sector with a giant dope-slap that says: "Wake up! You _really_ wanted to join the Terran Empire all alone". :D

The mobile culture generator idea has me thinking..Is this supposed to be their intended use? After all, there TERROR stars. Thoughts?

Frankly, I'd be perfectly happy with terror stars without the terror. Think about it. An ally is having problems, move a terror star with full Military/Social bonuses over to his system. You can even take it back when the war is over. (Only works if the UP votes for starbases to affect your allies, I think).

The military package would be nice for invading a sector, but it would tip the balance from defender to attacker.

terror stars are basically just mobile SB's. so u can send the bonuses wherever you want, they are slow as hell but i use them to destroy the capital system, or a good system that my enemy has to cripple their economy, its good to keep them on your home system during peace to boost the defense+econ+social+military+trade of ur sector :)
