moo3 & galciv a difference in class

moo3 & galciv a difference in class

http://www.ina-community.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=279705&perpage=30&pagenumber=1

doing my thu night lurking on the moo forums to see if there's patch news. no patch news but the main moderator guy there was slammin galciv based on a beta he has.

so then brad comes on and politely points out that it may not be the most polite thing for the people running the moo site to be putting down the competition on their own forum.

then the moderator gets hysterical and can't see why there's anything wrong with him putting down galciv. another moo guy comes on and can't see what's wrong either.

brad, i've finally put my finger on why this place is so much nicer and more intelligent than the moo forums. you guys have class. it's as simple as that. you guys have class and they don't. the arrogance in sencho's posts are shocking. but it's beaten by his obliviousness to how unprofessional it is of him to be cutting down galciv on a site he mods.

i've lurked both here and on moo for a long time and i have never heard brad say anything bad about moo 3. and i bet he's been tempted given how craptacular moo 3 is.

I added a response to that thread on the MOO forums. Some of the mods strike me as condescending, and anyone who is not a devout MOO fan is touted as a troll. Instead of being good 4X fans, as Brad is, as well as many others here, on the MOO board, you like MOO.. or you burn at the stake. :D

I'm STILL very irritated at the rudeness regarding game resolution. Their faq is a slap in the face.

One thing, let's not stoop to MOO3 bashing here. As Frogboy has said, let's keep the focus on GalCiv.

And I want to say another thing of a more personal nature. After I got the beta, there were some things I thought the game was missing. For whatever reason that possessed me, I (in many ways I think presumptously) emailed Brad, telling him the issues/problems I had with the game. I really didn't know what to expect in terms of a response - I still feel like it was sort of dumb for me to do - who was I telling him how to design his game? And I didn't post my thoughts here - I guess I was more scared of you guys than Frogboy :)

That said, I got back one of the politest emails I've ever received. He went down my points one by one, telling me exactly why he felt this feature or that feature just didn't fit in with his vision of the game. Not once did he say anything to belittle me, he didn't say my ideas/issues were dumb, he didn't dismiss my comments, he dealt with them openly and honestly, one by one. Indeed, at the end he thanked me for taking the time to outline my concerns. ,I have to say that response won my respect - first, that he even replied, and two, the tone of his response, third thanking me for my criticisms.

I just had to share that after seeing what happened on the MOO3 forum . . .

I read all of the posts on the MOOIII site. I for one did not see any particular "bashing" of GalCiv from Sencho. What I read were opinions, some his, some by others and some misinterpretations of his comments. There were some points well made. If you believe that MOOIII is imperfect... congratulations. If you think GalCiv is the end of all ends... get a life. You'll not find nirvana in either. Both are mighty approaches to achieving what gamers are seeking, neither have achieved the perfect state. Both are worthy of purchase, your choice depends on the detailed attributes of each product. It is unfortunate that MOOIII is struggling with design flaws. Because at the end of the day, if and when both products are functioning on all eight cylinders, the drag race toward the finish should be interesting. I think GalCiv has a hole-shot at the moment... we'll just have to see how MOOIII "comes on the cam".

Regardless, us gamers will benefit... IMHO

I'd just like to chime in and say that, once upon a time, the moo3 boards used to be a very civil and good place to chat (this was two years ago when the game was still in mid-development stage and fans were contributing to the design). In fact, we all prided ourselves on being a better forum than most could ever hope to be.

Over time, as the population increased, things slowly got out of hand. Sencho has been a mod for a long time on the MOO3 board and has usually done a good job of it. However, i would send him my best wished because when you look at his job over there and then look at the forum itself, you can see what kind of dire position he is really in.

If i were a mod over at IGMoo, i think i would have gone crazy a long time ago.

So anyway: beware the the population increase.

FYI, Sencho edited the offensive sections of his post . . . so you didn't get the whole story.

How incredible... these guys are the same that put GalCiv flyers into MOO3 boxes! :notsure:

Yup, this smiley says it all: notsure
What's THAT?! Heck... were they the perfect person to put on something so important in intelligent-gaming history as MOO3? *?!?*

The major source of confusion arises from the first post by Sencho which in its current state is relatively mild.

I witnessed the 'original' post by Sencho which was anything but objective and his subsequent posts were both unprofessional and childish. The edited post is watered down significantly from its 'original' state.

I tend to lurk in forums and I don't have either game as yet, but after witnessing the 'original' post, I feel Brad stands vindicated in clarifying the melodramatic criticism originating from Sencho.

Its not only a matter of professional courtesy, but a simple matter of common sense. If you are the moderator for a forum, you are allowed to have an opinion, but it should be given in an even-handed manner. The 'original' post had few positives and gave a slamming critique with few clear examples.

Just because you are a moderator who is under pressure from mounting criticism of a game that did not live up to the expectations of a majority of gamers, is no excuse to throw a hissy fit. ;)

Having said that, the post has now been changed. It strikes me though, that the way the moderator and what I took to be a 'designer' of the game reacted is similar to how QS and fanbois have responded to reasonable criticism of MOO3, which is with outright unreasonable hostility.

Although, nothing that is said in both forums will have a major impact on whether I will purchase these two games, from witnessing the discussions, I have found QS customer support to be in a pitiful state as compared to GC.

Cheers
(P.S. Is this game coming out in Australia?) :)

I don't think people need fear a population increase. There are a couple reactions to a game. One is very positive. The result on the boards for that game is a lot of questions typically, by new posters, lots of praise, and a few potshots that typically are inudated with irritated lovers of the game. IL-2 Forgotten Battles is a good example. Awesome game.. the boards are civil, even with a population increase, and almost all the posts are positive.

The games that don't meet up with gamers expectations for whatever reason get a very negative population. CRPGs are often fodder.. easy targets for the masses. Morrowind and Neverwinter Nights are both games that I posted to the boards.. but once the game was released, they went from positive, enthusiastic posts, to negative bashfests that lasted a long while.

Needless to say, it eventually dies down. Those bashing the game find their time is to valuable to spend months complaining, and they move onto something else. Even the MOO boards are more relaxed with less flaming threads than in the first couple of weeks. In 3 months, nary a flame or bashing thread will be found. Only the true fans will be left, who are playing, and want the game to improve through mods and patches.

I think GalCiv is so up front with what they are doing, that there will be little problem with angsty posters after release. There may be an influx of new buyers that didn't research the game and post here with their dissapointments, but it won't be to bad, methinks. I guarantee you'll see threads like 'Where is the ship design?! This suxxors!!' and such. There are to many ignorant purchaserss of games out there that buy first.. complain later, after it doesn't meet their personal criteria.

All in all, I think this board shall be quite positive post release.

Maybe we should start a "Galcivv is t3h suxx0r" sink thread for all the roaming flamers now, to keep them from taking over the rest of the forum from the regoolars. :)

I like the Moo3 forum rules : mods end up editing their posts, the others', and close threads .
Lol, they should as well write all the threads themselves !!
Did they make some Information Class in Moscow 30 years ago ? LOL

I think this forum will be safe until a sequel is made. Then you have the risk of high expectations which can often mutate into a game killer and forum hatred breeder.

Consequently, I appreciated Frogboy's post on Apolyton wherein he "lowered" our expectations of GalCiv. :)

Hello everybody....
I just discovered Galciv by the Moo3 forum and read everything that is to know about this game and let me tell you, just pre-ordered cause it seems soooo good.
I am also a dissapointed with Moo3 and the click turn festival that that game is. I am a 4x fan for quite some time having played Moo, Moo2, SE 4 and MOO3 witch i dont find so bad, the thing is that, MOO3 has serious issues that have to be worked out before it can be fully enjoyed.
Galciv so far has some nive features like the cultural thing (ala Civ3) that i am drooling to explore further in the game.
Cant wait to receive my copy.
