Creating your own civilization (please read)

One of the thing that really cheeses me a tad are those who, without knowing anything about GalCiv, think it's "limited" because you have to play as humans.
That is because they are used to games where the race you choose is somehow hard coded.
Consider this screenshot from the upcoming BonusPak:

Your civilization has around 30 abilities that you can tweak. Plus you can choose your political party, plus you can take the path of good or evil or somewhere in between.
In short, you have much much more control of what kind of civilization you're playing than most games I've played in this genre.
Playing as another race would essentially mean having different sprites for your ships. And in exchange for those sprites, you woudl lose all the backstory content since it would have to be made genericized. By playing as humans, you're not losing anything in terms of customization and in return you get to have a much richer, deeper back story.
So to those who don't have the game, please bear this in mind.
