Distribution of GalCiv in Europe?

Hi, I'm another newbie who got here by Apolyton's MOO3-Forum ;) . But I also know it from my OS/2 days, only never thought it might still exist. Even then it was hard to get in Germany.

I tried to preorder GalCiv from Amazon.de. But they don't have it. I even asked their sales support and they didn't know it.

Same on Amazon.co.uk. On the other hand, Amazon.com sells it. Why is that so?

The direct purchase is an option, but also an expensive one because of the shipping fee.

Is it planned to distribute (not localized, English works fine for me :) ) the GalCiv in Europe and / or Germany?

I'd be grateful for any information regarding my problem.

Amazon.com is for amercians only I think, the negotiating deals with sales outside US isnt done yet so those of us who live outside have to wait awhile, you can always preorder from this site and for $10 extra you can have the game shipped to you. If you only want to download and not the CD then you just pay the $44.95, but that you knew ;)
Well, they WILL distribute it outside US and it will be localized versions I belive, its just not yet decided when!

Hope it helped

There are going to be localized versions in Europe. I'm not 100% sure of the languages, but French and German would be high on the list.

When we can announce more about that, we will.

@Calis:
Don't you have some shop nearby that can import games for you? I know a good one in munich that (hopefully) will get me my US-GalCiv Version close to the release date.

hi

thanks for your answers, all of you!

@Arno:
No, there currently is no game shop in Dortmund and the nearby Ruhr Valley that I know of.

@Arne:
Thanks a lot for your hint! That's what I've been looking for for some time now. And not only for GalCiv.

Now I'm happily awaiting the day it will be released :D .

@MasterMoO
Hey I think you gave me the hint where to preorder the game mysefl :D

@Calis
I love amazon.de but sometimes I wish you could order all the stuff from amazon.com through them.... The distribution of strategy first games well is not really satisfying in Europe... to get Disciples 2 here in Germany was nearlly impossible in the beginning.

Glad I've been able to help. ;)
Btw. you might want to try ordering via amazon.co.uk if you don't get stuff through .de .
I did that with DVDs a couple of times.

I'm still uncertain if I should get the game due to the bonus pack policy. I don't have internet access at home and I don't want to pay about €50 per month just to make sure I can get the bonus packs.

I don't think ordering from UK shops to "more continental Europe" is the best thing ever. UK is expensive as hell and S&H is high, too.

While searching for "Galactic Civilizations" on amazon.de, I found a strange thing without a picture and a release date of march 31st for EUR25. That's either something different or it's damned cheap.

DireFog: I saw it, too. Very strange. It wasn't there a few days ago. Maybe it's a good idea to preorder it.

If it's the right thing and amazon.de made a mistake, I presume you can get it for the price you preordered it. And if not, you can still cancel the order.

Hum, the - apparently estimated -amazon.de shipping date is _May_ 31st. Guess that would be the localized version and who really wants that?

A localized version? But I thought that's still in the planning phase. I rather think the people at Amazon.de got a little bit confused about the pricing and availability of GalCiv.

I think it's entirely possible that they found a supplier of the old OS/2-GalCiv and totally messed things up. ;p

I'll wait and see.
