Tutorial. Is there one? If not...

I Just played through The Corporate Machine demo a few times. After reading through the a PDF Manuals walkthrough section.

No matter how user friendly a new game is the inclusion of a quality tutorial not only eases some players into a game that may had given up on. But it shows compassion from the developers. I also played through some of the Monopoly Tycoon tutorials today and it was very informative. And took some of the pressure off, creating antisipation instead of stress. This was in contrast to TCM that had no tutorial. I read a review from PC Gamer and Gamespot on TCM and they faulted this and the quality of the manual. But of course both really liked the game. So did I, I have a copy on hold for $7.95 at Half Price Books in Tacoma WA. I see the manual is on site, impressive but without the demo I won't bother reading it just yet. So, is there a tutorial & if so what is it like? And if there isn't one, why the heck not? :notsure:

I hope so. Anything to ease the transition into such a complex game would be greatly appreciated by us newbies. When it comes to strat games I need all the help I can get. :)

I think they are working on one that will be included in the Bonus Pack.

I have to second this one. In game tutorial's are essential to getting players roped into a game quickly.

One of the things that Galciv has is hits that show up from time to time that can be very helpful in learning how to be successful playing it. There are lots of them. They seem to be a little scattered deliberately to try to reduce the "bordom" factor of having them show up en mass.

Also, Brad has stated that a Demo will be prepared shortly after Galciv's release.

From what I see there is a tutorial mode in bonus pack. I will be able to say more about it when it gets released for testing next week.

In addition to what Space_Dust is hinting at, there are two bits that are included with the retail packaging that haven't been seen yet. Specifically: a "quickstart" insert in the box with some initial tops. And an included "Survival Guide" (HTML) that takes you through the initial screens and first couple of turns of the game.

I don't recall how long the walkthrough portion of the manual ran, but that's there as well.

I appreciate the responces. I read every word of the TCM's manual today. Noted a lot of typos and mixed meanings. GREAT humor in the manual, laugh out loud humor! I wouldn't of been surprised if you got a call from IBM or Microsoft lawyers though. Still I feel less stupid for buying a product that represents it's self with strong consistant clear grammer it's instuctions. Or put another way manuals that have been edited by more than one person. Everything worth writing is worth rewriting. ;)

Truth is I doubt I will have much trouble getting into GalCiv. I'm pretty sure I will figure it out even without quick starts, walk throughs and even better, movie or interactive tutorials. I am just caught up in the enthusiasim of all these people on this forum. And just want this kind of thought provocing entertainment to be as successful as possible; the artist, producers, designers, even the publishers, to be rewarded with not only the accomplishment of completing such a project but the security that comes with the kinds of success Stardoc has tasted in their desktop enhancment software. It's so darn easy when we work so very hard to create, nurture and bring something unique into the world to be blinded by its brilliance and to forget to dress this creature in the normal socially excceptable attire like tutorials. Nakor you said in addition to what Space_dust was hinting at-hmm I'm sure we will all be anxiously awaiting future details. :)

In the betas of GalCiv you could buy your shiops from 4 contractors:

1) Bastards, Inc.
2) Truly Evil Bastards.
3) Unbelievable, unspeakable evil bastards
4) Microsoft.

It's been changed. #4 is now Mitrosoft.

(For humor impaired, Stardock is a Microsoft partner).

Microsoft partner huh. Shoot I live in Tacoma WA, I've been mailing my rotten tomatoes to Redmond for years. Now I have to mail them to Livonia MI? ;)

Rusty, for someone who loves grammar so much, I'm suprised you don't know the difference between "it's" and "its". LOL
And, I live in Seattle, WA. Are you inside the "Tacoma Stink" range?

Actually I am living in the Lakewood area these days. Yes I do know the difference between the contraction and the possesive. But as I am recovering from baby brain strokeS, and re-recovering and re-recovering, I tire of reaching for the dictionary. Actually I tire easily period. Please no appologies, you had NO way of knowing. In fact my grammer in fact my ability to speak is sometimes pretty ------d. But in here I will simply annoy others with such weaknesses, where as the publishers of any softwhere do more than annoy with weak grammera nd mixed meanings in their manuals. After all I'm buying, they are not. By the way you might note the thread I started earlier this evening. I commended Stardock on the improvement between the TCM manual and all the articles in the GalCiv Encyclopedia as I read almost all of it this morning. As it was my pleasure. Such prose will, I suspect make future buyers feel smart for having bought GalCiv, where I felt differantly last night reading the manual for The Corporate Machine. ;) As for Tacoma. My last night out on the town in T town, we went to the Emerald Queen river boat casino. The craps tables and waitresses were friendly, fast, and fun. As for the air outside, that is still the same old aroma, unfortunately.
