Event question

Here's my situation. I'm pretty much cruising towards a research (or alliance victory). I've managed to out-colonize my opponents (and got lucky finding lots of good planets to colonize). I dominate the galaxy in every way... and I have an alliance with the Arceans and a bunch of highly lucrative trade routes with them. The Drengins are on the other side of my huge galaxy and are little threat.

Then all of a sudden out of nowhere I get this event where the Arcean leader gets assassinated by a "disgruntled worker" when visiting my empire. This causes my ally to declare war on me, cancel all my trade routes, and screw up my game... I had to revert to an earlier save.

I love the concept of events but this one goes a bit too far... Is there some way to exclude game-changing events like these from triggering?

Not at the moment. Perhaps u can mod them yr self however. The event is balanced, as the saying goes 'shit happens', the path to supreme overlord of the galaxy is mean't to be hard u know...

I have had the same event, usually with the Terrans.
And at times I have also turned right back around and offered peace to them. If my military outclassed their's by very much they would usually accept it.

At least you didn't get the variation on that theme that gives them a couple thousand ships spread all around the map for you to deal with.

The problem I see with that event is its rediculous explanation. If some "disgruntled worker" assassinated a foreign leader in the US, would that foreign leader declare war on the US because of what one of its citizens did? Especially if the leader was from say an ally of the US like Britain or Canada...

It just doesnt make sense to me...

They are aliens. Do they have to make sense?

Their leader is killed, and the new leader declares war. I never found it such a hard concept to grasp. For all the other country (or race) knows, the "disgruntled worker" is just a government paid assassin in disguise.

Three words.

World War One.

To briefly explain, Gavrilo Princip assassinated the Archduke of Austria, sole heir to the throne of Austria, in mid-1914. And the snowball effect took place. Everything went downhill, fast.

Now imagine races of aliens, who know little to nothing about one another.

"Those bloody Terrans! Let's kill 'em! Revenge!"

Makes perfect sense to me.
