TIME IS RUNNING OUT!

Next week is the last full week to send in submissions to the GUI Olympics. And as of today, there are only 17 Winamp skins and 17 icon packages in the contest.

With $15,000 in cash and prizes at stake, this creates a big opportunity for skinners to make a name for themselves and win some great stuff!

Not many, are there.

Indeed. I would have expected Winamp to have as many entries as WindowBlinds or up near it.

Maybe Winamp is just dying? I bet Media Player would have gotten a lot more entries.

There doesn't seem to be a lot of active Winamp 5 skinners. Even a lot of the current entries, while they work on WA5, are Classic skins. And with all the teams showing '0' entries, I wonder if there will be a lot of last minute uploaders.

winamp just takes a lot longer to skin...most decent skins these days take at least a month or more to make them. lets hope there are more coming in.

I don't suppose that there's any chance that the judges will find there are no entries worthy of awarding any prize money. Kinda like having to choose between bleeding heart Democrats and overly conservative Republicans. You don't want either, but those are the only choices.

guys... the thing is WA5 is different from WA classic (if you don't go for classic skin). You have to find a coder and "team" with him. It's not really suitable to that kind of contest.

Once a "SkinStudio" type program for WinAmp arrives im sure the number of skins will rise

takes about 100 hours to do a winamp skin, most of us have jobs, or go to school. A catagory of Media Player would have been better, then just winamp.

GUI Olympics 2K2 had alot of WinBlind skins. :/ There isn't many skins out this year - 2K4. :( Good luck y'all. :)

I'm familiar with what is involved in a Winamp skin. MOST of the entries are of the classic design and certainly didn't take 100s of hours. A full fledged icon package or full WindowBlinds skin is comparable in time and effort.

winamp modern skinning takes a lot of coding, it'll take a while, just wait, there are a lot skinner busy right now, as far as i can tell, me to :p

What? When is the due date for the submissions? I thought that you could send them in just before the events you're participating in begin - if that's true, then all winamp skinners have more than 2 full weeks left...

If you look at the teams list, almost half the entries are from the first 5 teams. I'm a (little) disappointed, seeing as, how many teams still have nothing up. I thought, this would be the biggest thing since cheese.:) There's only so much some of us can do.;)

Just from the tinkering I'm doing this year, learning how to skin as well how it all works together. I can see there is a lot of hours of work that goes into complete skins. No matter if it's just Winamp or Windows itself. I'm sure of the skinners are going to be posting their work here this week. I can't wait to see what they've come up with. I wish you all luck, I'm impressed with what's up here already and look forward to learning from what I see from skinners everywhere! Next year I might have a offering to the UIO. :)
