Cloaking

Will we see any cloaking tech in DA or GC3?

It could be an additional option to the defense section so you would have to swap something in return for the additional features of stealth. Also maybe there should be a tech tree for various levels of cloaking so that inferior civilizations would not be able to detect you but superior ones would.

Cloaking quick list of disadvantages (may be others as well - think submarines):

Passive sensor usage only
Movement restrictions
No active defenses (shields, powered armor, point defenses (uses active systems)
Weapons can't be powered up (or maybe severely reduced)

In other words, a cloaked ship has traded cover (protection) for concealment (hiding). Use of any system that radiates or leaves a trail that can be detected means that someone could detect where you are, but possibly, not exactly nor possibly be able to properly identify the owner of the vessel. If fact, the "owner" of the territory could be within his rights to assume that the cloaked vessel is a criminal and be able to fire upon it with impunity. Return or preemptive fire by the cloaked vessel, of course, would substantially reveal the location of the vessel, and if the fight continued beyond the unveiling of the vessel, be considered an act of war. (Possible ID of a destroyed or damaged cloaked vessel could also be cause for a declaration of war)

Without a doubt the biggest single tech. missing from Gal. Civ. is the cloaking device. Every other scifi univerise has one. Star Wars, Star Trek, Stargate, everyting. Not having the ability to hide your ships is a major limitaion.

I want one. I hope a cloaking device is added. Way Cool!!!!

It MAY be cool for the game, but from what I know it won't be in DA.

personally when i purchased GC2, I was so sure that the cloaking feature, in one form or another, would be in the game...I already had ideas for them before i got the game out of the box. To say the least i was dissapointed. I know its kinda late to add the extra coding necessary for cloaking in DA but i guess i'll cross my fingers for GC3 and hope someone at stardock hears me...
