Question for game developers...

if I download 1.1, 1.2...

If I download 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3, will it be three times as good as just getting 1.1 or 1.2 or 1.3?
It's very confusing
what I mean to say is: Is it better to get all the updates or just get 1.3 and thats it?

Second question:I've heard a lot about the DA epic generator I've never actually seen any AARs they are supposed to make...
And is the epic generater gonna be something like this:

Race:Terran Alliance
Galaxy:Medium
Habitable planets:Rare
Anomalies:Abundunt
Stars:Tight clusters
Planets:Common
Tech trade:On
Difficulty:Suicidal
(etc.....),

Year:2225 July 7,
colony ship launched
Survey ship launched

Planet Xasica IV(class 5),in orbit of Xasica colonized by colony ship 544 in [yyyy:mm:dd]

Cantact made with Drengin:Lord Kona in [yyyy:mm:dd]

[screenshot]

Planet Marshall II(class 9),in orbit of Theta Iota colonized by colony ship 67 in [yyyy:mm:dd]

Planet Marshall II Renamed Thindor

New colony ship constructed on Xasica in [yyyy:mm:dd]
New Constructor built on Earth in [yyyy:mm:dd]

Name of Screenshot:Overveiw of empire

Earth

Xasica

Thindor

Planet Mars (class 4),in orbit of sol, colonized by colony ship 566 in [yyyy:mm:dd]

If it isn't. Please give me give me an exemplary AAR generated by one of those epic generators.

Because trust me no one wants an AAR like that. Besides the epic generator and the new ship parts and campaign nothing about DA attracts me to buy it(not even better eye-candy graphics though it does look really good or asteroids being mined, paying 24.95 for ONLY three things in an EXAPANSION PACK that seems stupid is stupid)

You should hold off on 1.3. It may not be all it's cracked up to be if this latest beta is any indication.

I have had more random crashing with this and the last beta than any other version.
And in my first game on the latest beta the AI was building virtually nothing but econ buildings. I captured a class 20 or so planet that had a single factory, a single research, and 10 stock markets. And every single planet that I took through influence or conquest was the same, no matter which race it was. There were stock markets on manufacturing and research bonus tiles all over the place. They are misusing planet tiles with econ buildings the same way as they were in an earlier version with entertainment buildings.

I am ready to go back to 1.2 until I know it is resolved. It is simply too frustrating a version to put up with.

You're not wrong, something is very very wrong with this beta. I never had a crash with 1.2 or previous betas.

Ya the beta for 1.3 is fairly buggy but its a beta.

And to answear your question patches are path independant going from 1.0 - > 1.1 -> 1.2 ->1.3 is identical to just going from 1.0 - 1.3 since all files that are change are overwritten, pretty dumb question sorry

and for the DA question there have been several examples of it. Click on journals and scroll down its in there.

also there is a sticky in one of the forums about all the new fetures.

You always get the latest full version of the game, since it's all the versions up to date.

So 1.2 and nothing else, it's hardly confusing.

Also: The epic generator dictates a story. There was an example of it a while ago in the journals section.

Well, if the last beta crashed often, and this one has already as well, and they have set a date for the final to be a week away...

I am pretty sure this last beta is pretty close to the real thing. Is sounds like the devs think, oh, just a few little tweaks and it is all done.

That worries me. It is as unfinished as it can be, and setting a date for the final is very premature IMO.

This game has been very stable on my machine up to this point. With the exception of one or two of the earlier beta version when they were working out the new combat system, the number of crashes up to this point have been matched in the past week by these last 2 beta's of 1.3.

The beta's have been few and far between this time. And shooting for a next week final version is really unrealistic unless they are planning a 1.4 in the next few weeks.

It feels more like going from a very good Win98SE to WinME. A few bells and whistles, and a lot of problems and hassle.

Night Hawk: Don't worry, the epic generator will be much more robust that that. There are pages upon pages that have been (and are still being written) that will create custom stories..no generic "Terrans went to war with Drengin" stuff here

I beleive there's an example at https://www.galciv2.com/Journals.aspx?AID=127348

Moosetek: Have you submitted any crash logs from 1.3? If not, can you open up stardock central>free stuff and get "Smart Exception". Run that while playing the game, and when a crash occurs, send that log to GC2Bugs@stardock.com. We can then figure out what messing the game up on your machine and get it fixed for release. Thanks!

I will try SE again. Perhaps a newer version will save the logs correctly.
I had problems with it in the past, so had given up on that route. It would not save a complete file to the zip folder. So I just waited for a fixed version of the game, since I knew others would probably crash and send them in.

I'll get the newest SE and try again.

Yeah I just thought that a good story needs a whole bunch of human emotions. A computer can't make a joke.

A collection of gameplay examples

This is a link to Mascrinthus's list GP Examples(gameplay examples)
Read Fall from Grace. Its the best one there and its got feeling. something a computer could never produce. No matter how much data you write for a computer. xpyre wrote like it would have been in the eyes of a real ruler.

And then triple posted just for good measure

Of course, a computer isn't going to be able to produce the perfect AAR. But what the Epic Generator does do is to provide a template on which the player can then build, saving repeated alt-tabbing to come in/out of the game as you write your own notes, save screenshots and so on.

That said, the example generated Epic wasn't too bad. Apart from the over reliance on statistics (my military rating was x, his was y) it could have been written by a human. Of course, perhaps once you'd had several it would possibly start to repeat the same phrases.
