Report thread for Typos, Bad Grammar, Etc

Please post about typos, bad punctuation, and bad grammar and other language oriented "bugs" here, if you have not already posted about them in one of the bug threads.  This will help keep the bug report thread from getting further out of control.  Please note that I can only handle this type of thing in the English language.    Please be detailed when making your reports.

One right here on galciv.com. The tag line reads "All rights reservered" instead of "reserved."

I've spotted a couple gems:

The government of the Drengin Empire fell and become the (soft and cuddly) Drengin Federation. Later, a planet rebelled from the Drengin Empire.

The "Set Rally Point Information" was written by an alien, but I haven't figured out which species yet. I commend the idea of putting editable text in a visible box to you, and making the "Rally Point mission" [which is not labelled as such] a radio button.

Have fun!

Rabid Rob, I'm not following you on the last one.

I forget where it was exactly but in a message about space pirates it said they prayed on trading ships where it should be preyed.

Screen is F1 & F2.

Click on either active build field in the F2 screen will bring up a pop up on RHS of the F1 allowing you to change build items without going to planet screen.

However its description of what something does is way out of date with what the planet screen indicates.

ok, I will go in to too much detail ;p

When you click on a Rally point, you go into the "Set Rally Point Information" window.

As an example, if the Rally point is in sector 0,2, it will say:
Sector 0,2U
se the below fields to to name this rally point and set an course of action once the point is reached.

Rally Point 0

Normal: Set this as an autopilot destination.
AutoFleet: Form a fleet here.
AutoAttack: Engage enemy vessels once reached.

I've bold faced the most glaring errors in the first section, but I suggest scrapping it in favor of a simple "Choose Rally Point Mission:"

If you put a box around the Rally point name, the name change ability is implicit enough.

Note that the Normal mission should say something like "Do nothing upon arrival" since as it currently reads, a ship would arrive, and then get assigned the Rally point as a destination.

I suggest adding one more mission:
Redirect: Forward to target Rally Point.
For when a rally point is outmoded, but we still have ships on the way.

Stay warm! :)

Aviator99 UK: What do you mean, it's out of date?

Rabid Rob: Detail is always a good thing when reporting bugs.

Aviator99 UK: What do you mean, it's out of date?
End of quote

Examples:
Click on social in F2 select Galactic Stock Ex result in pop up is +25 econ +25 star influence.
Planet screen and ? button only 25 econ.

Others :
Hyper computers F2 shows no value in pop up
Plan scr give 25 research
Omega power plant F2 50 manu and 50 econ
Plan scr gives 50 manu
Omega qual con F2 15 manu and 33 starships
Plan scr gives 33 starships

Suspect there are several more. Sugest that there are 2 instances of the description and one of them is old. maybe a better way would be to have 1 instance and 2 pointers ;)

Otherwise you need to go through all the descriptors and check 'em.

Some problems regarding the grammer of messages from aliens. For example, "We Drengin Empire love good skin" should be "We of the Drengin Empire love good skin"

There are a few typos in the techs....cant remember specifics here, maybe someone will go thru the entire tech tree.

Also, i had a game where in the diplomacy screen (the one where u trade with civs) the list of the Altarian's friends and enemies listed themselves as one of their allies! (and no, there was no Altarian splinter world)

A small blemish on an otherwise outstanding game

If you customize the race names, those customized names are not used in the Foreign Policy - Report screen.

The spelling and grammar errors I mentioned in the first beta thread are still in:

Found a couple techs in the Tech-Tree Viewer that do cannot be completely scrolled through: Artifical Planets and The Dark Side.

Also, the Excalibur tech has no description.

The Range racial ability is "+10 percent" whereas everything else is something like "+10 %" -- it's such a rebel! ;p

I can't consistently make those scroll bars disappear. Ah well, it's so irregular, forget about it.

There is still no description for Excalibur technology on the technology discovery screen (with the Cylon-type robot).

update: I am a big fat fool, I didn't notice someone two posts ahead already mentioned this. Sorry!

Ok updated my list

In the pdf manual (version 1.19), the Table of Contents lists "About the Demo Version" with the following for the page number, "Error! Bookmark not defined.", likely because that section does not appear in the manual for the full version.

Cheers. :)

On summary screen at end of game (where it tells you average tax %) its stating BC not % after amount

Resource descriptions haven't been updated for 1.19 to replace the '%%' with '%'. It also looks like the same is true of Event descriptions, although I haven't seen them in-game yet.

Space Pirates random event: The "Good" choice has two minus signs in front of the BC value.

In v1.2 there is a typo that has four % signs in a row. It show up when the explorer hits a hotspot. I think it says something about increasing ?? by %%%%. I have seen it twice so I will write it down next time it pops up and report again so that you can find it, unless you can search for "%%%%"

not a bug,more of a suggestion/idea;

I dont't know if any of u guys have played championship manager 4,but u can accumulate a lot of save games.
The developers added a nice feature with a windows explorer type folder and sub folder menu.
Just thought with all the save games one can have for gal civ, it might be nice to create a folder for each game u play to stick the save games in while playing gal civ, as opposed to scrolling a long list or leaving for the desktop to create folders(dunno if u can do this already, just covering my ass in case)

thanks

I know of two typos that I've noticed:

On a "moral choice" popup about a disease which produces a fluid that is a delicacy in other civilizations: "..stop this discussing trend" should be "stop this disgusting trend"

The other one is for the virtual reality center "18 years and old, please!" should be "18 years and older, please!"

It looks like English.STR hasn't been updated to replace '%%' with '%'. I think I noticed it in one of the victory conditions dialogues ('spread your culture over 90%% of the galaxy'), but I assume the whole file was skipped.

As others have pointed out (though not in this thread), the alignment descriptions in English.STR are also inverted. The last section of TABLEALIAS ForeignStats reads:

[ChaoticGood] Saintly
[Good] Good
[Neutral] Neutral
[Evil] Evil
[ChaoticEvil] Demonic

... and should read:

[Good] Saintly
[ChaoticGood] Good
[Neutral] Neutral
[ChaoticEvil] Evil
[Evil] Demonic

... or something to that effect.
