Beta tomorrow

Looks like the beta is going to come out tomorrow. We're putting a few more tweaks in it and then it'll be ready to go.

BTW, I hope people are understanding that this is NOT GalCiv for politics or something.  This is a very different game from anything we've made before. It's a very different game from anything I've played before. The pacing is very different.  You could, for instance, crank through the game in 15 minutes or you could spend an hour or two per game.

Not sure yet if the multiplayer will be working correctly for the beta yet. It's still pretty rough there.

An hour or two dosen't seem very long, is there going to be a way to slow it down. I would like a few hours at least because I want to really get into it.

I'm looking forward to taking it for a spin!

I definitely understand that it's not GalCiv, but I also hope that it's not just a (much) prettier version of other political games out there. There's some worries that I have, mainly having to do with numbers being used a lot when I think they would be better off hidden, but I will have ample opportunity to report bugs and suggestions when the beta comes out today, so I'm not worried.

One thing we definaly encountered with some of the other Political Games on the market was the definate overwhelming amount of numbers being presented to the player when they first start up. Same is true with the issues available to speak out on...there are hundreds of items a candidate could realisticly talk about in a race for the presidancy.

Hopefully we've been able to streamline the process - keeping the depth that makes campaign strategies important, but also weeding out any superfluous information that will just bog down the normal gamers experience.

Now that the Beta is available for download we should get some feedback on the project...and hopefully we've hit our mark and have a compelling title for strategy gamers and political junkies alike (even thought there's still alot to be done on it)

Thanks so much for your responses, Boogie -- I am indeed looking forward to this!

Of course, I have the misfortune of having Windows2000, so sigh, I guess I'll have to wait until next week. I thought that I could slip by and try it out anyway even though Brad said that it would only work with XP, but yep! Black screen, pretty cursor, nothin' else.

Good luck!

Actually the black screen, pretty cursor just emans it's generating the textures. It just takes awhile the first time.

It may run on Win2K. Depends on the fonts.

You're completely correct, FB -- it worked just fine (excepting, of course, some errors that are to be expected, and which I'll focus on more later) when I gave it time to load the textures.

Beautiful game, by the way. I played on cakewalk, and romped Bush's butt, as it would be expected. Ah, fantasy!
