MINITURIZATION HAS BEEN FIXED!

Just heard it from Brad on IRC. It might not have made it into 1.3 beta 2, but it will definitely be in beta3/final. From there on out, sizemods are now based on the base hull size, so parts will no longer grow as you research miniturization techs.

I repeat:

Miniturization has been fixed!

I'm worried about the Yor now.

They already usually give me the most problems, along with the Drengin!

forgive me but what was wrong with it in the first place other than if you dident have it most ships where one weapon wonders.

yeah, to me it just made the ship hulls bigger for more components...*Ducks as well*

Most parts have a base size amount, plus a certain % of the hull's total capacity added to that. Since miniturization makes hulls bigger, it made those parts (which is most of them) bigger as well. Meaning whenever you researched a new level of miniturization tech, any given part had about a 1 in 3 chance of getting bigger, causing the net increase in space to be less than it should.

If you made a design with lots of the same component (say, a sensor barge), this effect was so prnounced that researching a new level of miniturisation could actually cause a buildable design to become unbuildable, because the multiple sensors, etc, all grew in size at the same time and completely overtook the gain in hull size.

Now though, or at least, when 1.3 beta3 comes out, all parts will stay the same size and will only vary based on which type of hull you put them on. Miniturization will not affect them at all, aside from letting you put even more of them on your ships than before (since now you'll actually gain 10%, 15%, etc, instead of losing half or more of the new bonus because the parts grew at the same time).

I love my Huge ship mobile fortresses. Is the 125% cap still in place (I sorta don't want to encounter Yors running around with max miniturization tech and multiple Hyperion Shrinkers :o )

Darth Kyro:

This was the reason that sometimes when I gained new tech levels and went back to upgrade a ship design, an existing design actuaaly was using more space than I had. Right?

Well, I hate to say things that have already been said, but in this case:

Woohoo!!!!

*dances*

Thanks for the fix!

There were some fanboys adamant that it worked, even to the point of shrillness. Oh, they saw that parts could get larger with the current miniturization system, and yet they maintained that it worked. What will they do now but celebrate Stardock's magnanimity for giving us this fix? Figures.

Yup, that's the way of the fanboy.
They insisted that the "fake" turn upon loading a saved game was intentional and that the Galactiv Privateer-wonder worked as it should.
Both of which, along with miniaturization, will be fixed in 1.3.
It's lucky that the majority here are a little more rational. Otherwise, the developers might have missed fixing them.

Cornhusker: It WAS working as intended. The rounding didn't, and that proved to difficult to fix, so they changed the system. Now it works *better*.

Now that's what I call a small miracle! (Taps cigar, waggles bushy eyebrows.)

Excellent news. Now our ships will no longer suffer from a sudden onset of terminal obesity.

I wonder if the Subspace Anihilator is working as intended...

Marcathonas, fair enough. I have no idea how hard these things are to fix, much less to conceive of to begin with!

kewlness on that fix!

Great....now I need to start a new game again. (and again and again and again~~~~)

Happy for the improvement though of course!
