The Premium

I have one question for this game right now. I would love to get the premium to get better graphics and such but then i saw the $10 fee every month and a question poped into my head. Is the premium completly useless without the monthly fee? By the way great work so far ive been waiting for a game like this forever and in my opinion it will revolutionize MMORTS.

What do you mean by useless? If you mean you won't be able to 'use' the premium without the ~$10 monthly fee, then you are correct. The free version of the game will be free (surprise!), though, and available for everyone (available first for TotalGaming.net subscribers, I think, and Stardock customersr, but eventually available for everyone).

I really hope that those of us who have been following this game for over a year now get the opportunity to beta test Society. The more i hear about this game, the more eager i am to play it.

There is some confusion on this matter that we need to clean up in the documentation.

The way we plan to do this is as follows (and this is subject to change):

There will be a Free Society MMO. In that, users, can download a client from here and play on-line.

There will also be the retail version of Society. This version has tons of additional artwork and content and be available at the store for a normal retail price.  Users of the retail version and Free Society can interact.  The difference is that the retail version of Society would also have a single player strategy game along with the extra content.

In terms of the MMO, there will be the free MMO as well as the premium accounts. The premium accounts would give you some additional benefits which will largely evolve during the beta phase but will involve additional benefits within the MMO world (premium only worlds to play on for instance).

But the crucial part is that the free client and the free MMO elements be fun and interact seamlessly with those who have bought the retail version as well as have premium accounts.

Would there be an option to purchase JUST the single-player section of the game? By that, I mean, would we be able to buy the retail version, and then not use the premium account and rely solely on the single-player game and free accounts (without monthly charges)?

It sounds like it Shadow, you may or may not get a free month at Premium level when you purchase the retail version. But it sounds like you could cancel or opt not to start a premium subscription(whatever fits the situation), and play online with better graphics but not the 'premium online benefits' whatever those may be. I could be wrong but that's my 'read' on Frogboy's post.

Considering what StarDock has done with GalCiv, I would not be surprised if you'd still get graphical or other updates that came out, just there'd be additional benefits to paying every month if you so chose. Again, that's just my 'read' on the previous post I'm not going off of anything else.

I was thinking about this and what if anyone that bought the retail version automatically got the premium account at a discount? Rather than say $10 a month, it would only be $5 a month? Just throwing numbers out there, but i just hope that the extra features wont give the premium accounts too much of an advantage.

Its good to hear that the game will be free no matter what. As a college student, i have enough bills as it is, so free is always good.

Now...here is the $64,000 question; is there any idea of when the first beta will be? I think we've been following Society for over a year now, and im very eager to finally get to try this Keep us posted, i cant wait to see some more screens.
