Uh-oh...

Usually when one says 'Uh-oh' it means in actual fact: 'I am in deep shit'. Well, yes I think I am in deep shit.

The company I work for is not doing good. At all.

It's been exactly three weeks I've been answering phone calls of very angry wholesalers and hotels that are awaiting payments from us. Some have been waiting for over 6 months now.

I've informed my boss about it and all she has to say (it's been three weeks) is some lame excuse with the bank that's not doing their job. EXCUSE ME?? She really takes me for an idiot... I've talked to one of the hotels who said that they're bank dealed directly with our bank and were told that our account didnt have any moneys, which is why they havent proceed to the payment.

So I told her, and of course she said that they were lying and that she already talked with the responsible of the account and that all would be settled that very day. That was Friday last week. Yesterday, I've got calls again from everybody: Australia, Vanuatu and New Zealand. Now they're threatning to pass our bad record among the industry of each country. And that is not very good, my boss is suck a jerk. And such a liar. She's a BITCH.

I now wonder if we'll get paid at the end of this month. Of course the law protects us (the employees) in the case of bankrupcy but still. I dont worry that much because if I lose my job I will be allowed some indemnities not much but enough to live on. I've also already started to look at vacancies in the newspapers. I'm preparing my resume and i'm going to drop it all over town.

Today she said she kicked the bank's arse (yeah right) and that she told them to cancel the transfers that she would pay by check since they were so slow. I dont believe her one bit. But i did tell her I was fed up with answering these kind of phone calls. That is not my job to handle accountings, i'm in the sales departement for chrissake! And she always waggles her arms in a way for me to lie to them and tell them she's not in at the moment. What kind of attitude is that????

I hate her so much, I've been coming late to work this full week because i'm so sick of her and how she's so full of shit. My motivation is very low, but i do love this job. It sucks that is being run by her.

I was looking forward to my holidays in August but I have to wonder if this company will still be standing at that time. I have serious doubts.

Oh boy, the ship is going down. I'd suggest, if you are financially able to, jump ship. This would not look good on your resume. Now, I'm not saying you did anything.

Anywho....there is my two cents.

I seriously hope things start heading for the good.

Oh no, I personnally know that it's not my fault, it's just bad management. And yup, I'll jump before it sinks. I mean hopefully!
I seriously hope things start heading for the good.

Thanks!

How would it "not look good" on her resume?

Why should she quit prematurely? Apparently she'll be receiving some form of severance or other compensation due to her situation which could keep her in food and housing so she doesn't have to rush around to replace her job with something else just as crummy.

This sounds like a blessing in disguise, IG. From the blogs you've posted, it seems that you are terrific at your job but the management is wretched. Now you'll be able to take your time and find a something with a company that will treat you right and take proper advantage of those people skills of yours!

Best wishes.

My thought was, "guilt by association." Now, I'm not saying it will happen. Just, a precaution. Ya know, in case.

Rubbish, absolute, utter rubbish. Take it from me, Em, it won't make any difference to YOUR resume. It will make a whole lot of difference to your boss' resume but then she sounds to me like she lie anyway.

I do hope your boss has just been holding out and is not heading for bankruptcy. I know how much you like the job so I would hate to see you loose it. Anyway, good luck with it, mate. I hope everything works out.

Take a good hard look at the last years financial statement of your Company and then decide. For all you know there may be a turn around or there is a real prospect of outsourcing.

Your boss sounds like mine in drag!  Get out as soon as you are able.  Whether the money is there or not, banks do not make mistakes to spite one company.  They would not be in business very long if they did.

The company that I work for is in deep shit as well. We've had 'right-sizing', cutbacks in hours, and a complete 360 in terms of job requirements. What was once so prided on (like weekly quality meetings, team challenges, and general company motivational challenges) are all gone, and all we are basically expected to do is punch the clock and take as many calls as possible. Now, our company probably won't go under, but the underlying 'feel' for the company is long gone.

In some ways, it would have been better off if the company had just gone under. (Our original all-Canadian company was bought by a European company that is just a giant and has a record of sucking the life out of the smaller company it buys like Monopoly properties.) I'd feel better if I was laid off from an okay place to work at, than still working for a money-sucking machine.

Anyhow, good luck. It's too bad when job uncertainties suddenly arise, but like others have stated, maybe it's a good thing.

I have several companies on my resume that closed shortly after I left them (my leaving because I knew they would be closing). So don't worry about that. I would start watching the job market, I don't know how it is there but here it is awful. So while you shouldn't quit your job just yet there's nothing wrong with starting to look for another and making sure your resume is up to date just in case.

Sorry to hear the company you work for is not doing well. Hope everything gets resolved, otherwise good luck looking for a new job

Sounds like you're doing the right thing. Get other resume's out and see if you can find somthing better. Don't quit until then, because then you'd be unemployed and any job is bettter than that, in my opinion.

Sorry things don't seem to be going too well with that job Em. I agree with most of what is said here, you got some good advice. You already began the process though and that's a good thing! Good luck.

Yup, totally, that's why I dont worry too much, but it does bring spirits down a little. I will take my time in finding something rewarding financially and spiritually speaking. I heard the local museum is looking for someone to manage the reception. Sounds good to me

I think so too! I dont worry too much about myself. I worry about my workmate Jayne. She's not totally fluent in French and she doesnt write french properly, so she will have a hard time finding something. She hasnt returned from her holidays yet, but i've already asked a friend working in a hotel if she could check on vacancies for Jayne.

I know, thanks Maso. I have nothing to be ashamed of, I've done a great job, most of the time at least lol! And i've only been working here for 8 months so i dont think this would look bad in my resume. But my boss, i dont think she'll do good if this ship sinks... And frankly I think she'll deserve it.

I do hope your boss has just been holding out and is not heading for bankruptcy. I know how much you like the job so I would hate to see you loose it. Anyway, good luck with it, mate. I hope everything works out.

Thanks Maso, I kinda hope it will hold out at least till my holidays, lol! After that I dont mind changing jobs, haha! I am so mean, am I not??

Bahu:
Well I'd love to dig into the companies past, but there is no way i can access the companies account. And I think I'm afraid of what I may find. I think since November last year it hasnt been doing good...

I know, she does take me for a fool! Grrr!!! And this bank is the Banque National de Paris. Which is one of the greater banks in France. So yeah, I dont think they take such long delays to transfer important amounts of money...

BTW:  I have been laid off by 2 companies that "went out of Business".  Unless you are the CFO, no one cares.  If you are the CFO - you are a jerk! (not you, the ^$&% CFO that killed the golden goose!).

Little Whip:
I once worked for a company that bounced our last paychecks and moved out of the building over the weekend, leaving no forwarding address. I don't know what your local law is there, but for us it meant waiting over a year for all the legal crap to be settled, and in the end they did have to pay us, but only minimum wage.

Normally we are covered. There is a law that protects us in the event of bankruptcy. Even if there is no money left, the bank will still have to pay us employees. And then they will deal with the company by recovering assets or such. Now this is "normally" now if she F.O without leaving an adress, we'd probably have a hard time. But that's not likely, New Caledonia is quite a small country. And if she wants to run away, it'll be overseas. She has to children and her husband has a great position at Canal Satellite. She is going nowhere.....

I'd start socking a little money away if possible, in case this happens to you, and yeah, start looking for a new job asap!

I have started already. It isn't much, I wanted to keep this money for when i'd be moving to my own apartment. But oh well, I guess I'll have to use it some day anyway, lol! And yup, I'm still looking. There are interim agencies (i dont know how you call those in English, agencies that find short term jobs for you, that can turn into long term). I've been to one when I first got here, so i'll probably just go back to check what they have available for me. It wont take long for me to find something else, I just need to be really looking and not wait for something to fall from the heavens, lol!

Nicky
Oh, that sucks! I mean it's good that you still have your job, but it sucks that the atmosphere is so shitty now I dont think it'll happen for this one. It's going down. IMO.

Charissa:
Yup I'm searching already, and I have to say that there are actually a lot of offers out there. Hopefully my resume will stand out, lol! Actually there are some governmental positions (secretary or the such) that organize kind of like exams and recruit the best candidates, so i'll probably try that

Oh no, i'm not quitting if i dont have something else in store. If I quit I wont receive any allowances. So yep. I'll keep looking b4 making a move.

Thanks sweety! I'll need some luck!

Yeah, it would suck if you couldn't afford to take your holiday. And incidentally, I don't think you're mean for wanting your job to last. I'd call it well-tuned survival instincts.

*blush* Thanks, Jayne has been here for me since the beginning, she organized my birthday this year, she's really been good to me. And I'd hate to see her facing this kind of trouble alone
