Ships lagging up the game?

Hi,

I recently downloaded Croc411's Terran Naval ships, and I really like the designs, however, whenever the ships are on screen during the game, it skips and jumps really badly. If there are more than 3 ships on the screen, it's all I can do to scroll across them.

In his readme it states that they will lag the game because the XML file is huge.

My question is, how can I reduce the size of this file, or otherwise fix this problem?

I'm playing on a 2.4 Ghz processor, 64MB graphics card, and 256MB ram, although it's soon to be 768MB as I just bought a 512 chip.

Thanks

My guess would be there are too many polygons at once on your screen... complex ships = more polygons than the "normal" builds.

You can go into the options menu and try disabling a few things, maybe turning anti-aliasing down...

More RAM will definately help game performance, although the slowdown you're experiencing might be on the video card end of things

I'm not big on RAM, but I think you have to put the chips in in pairs, so a 256MB chip probably won't work with a 512MB.

You only have to use matched pairs if it is dual channel. Doesn't sound like that one is.

And the graphics card is more the culprit with the lags due to the high poly ships. The extra ram won't help much with that, although it will help quite a bit with the general game play.

The good old 64MB graphics card is quickly going out of date. Although most games will run on them, any higher end graphics options (such as high anti-aliasing, high polygon ships, etc.) will quickly overrun the capabilities of the 64MB card. The RAM won't help too much with the slow down because of the high polygon ships, but everyday usage and gameplay should speed up.
