Escaping Battle

Is it Possible?

I was just thinking, why couldn't our small, speedy ships be abe to run from those slow, mammoth ones? I've thought many times in the middle of a losing battle "God, just RUN!". All we'd need is a button on the interface that says "Flee" or " Retreat" during the Full Battles, and when it all goes south we can pull out and our ships can live at least another turn.

There is no retreat in Galactic Civilzations.

More specifically, the battle viewer is simply a "replay" of the battle, which is mathematically determined instantly when you attack/are attacked. As such, you cannot in any way affect the outcome when watching it since it's already been done.

Then there could be a standing fleet order like as in Hearts of Iron where if you suffer X amount of damage, then the mission is scrubbed, or you try to retreat.

It is very fustrating to have a speedy ship just sit there STUPIDLY and get blown away. I suppose the ability to run would also break the AI?? Where's my VGA Planets disk.....

Not necessarily unrealistic, In a space battle taking place at huge distances it would be next to impossible to run once weapons are locked on.

There should be ample op[portunity for speedy ships to run before engagement.

Yet with the speed of Impulse and Warp drive, we should be able to get at least one square away, which seems to be the distance ships weapons can't get a lock. Right?
