Question on the best way to upgrade to 1.1

I uninstalled/reinstalled my game and Stardock Central (after uninstalling through control panel/add remove programs and deleting whatever was left over).

I downloaded 1.0X then the program which edits your registry to get the bonus content from the Stardock site. Then I upgraded to 1.1 through Stardock Central.

Did I have to do all that, or does 1.1 contain the bonus content and 1.0X as well? Perhaps I should just uninstall/reinstall and get the auto update alone from Stardock Cental?

I ask because although the game seems to be playing well I have some weirdness going on. I deselected all victory conditions so that only conquest was possible. However, I bribed my way to forming an alliance with 4 races (intelligent level and I saw this as my being able to survive through the early game, lol) and when I conquered the fifth I got an alliance victory (no big deal I just reloaded a save and kicked a race from an alliance with me). Needless to say this may mean I have an easy time of it since the former tech leader could have wiped me out but instead sold me his weapons techs, heck, sold me all his techs, for cash. It was a lot of cash but it enabled me to research other things.

Of interest to me is that I could sell pretty much useless techs to the minor races for some nice money (useless to me at that point).

Anyway, it seems like Civ 2 in reverse. In Gal Civ 2 I can ally fairly easily, then get the allied races to sell me their techs for cash. I'm not complaining. I could have a freaked out version installed. It "is" at intelligent level and I looked at the opponents carefully, they are all intelligent so the game is "tough". I heard at higher levels there is no AI change but the AI gets more economic bonuses and the like. So I was wondering if my version is okay, since I can con the races to ally with me then sell me their techs, or if I need to reinstall, etc. Or if I'm missing something else.

Thanks in advance!

All updates contain all previous and bnous content. If you can ally easily, it's not cheese. Allies are a great asset, and if it works for you then do it. Make sure it's 1.1 on SDC, and then use SDC.

How to get a post of mine to appear anywhere other than "my posts" is beyond me. However, thank you for the answer. Yes, I did it through the SDC and used the SDC patcher. It's really 1.1.0027 or somthing like that.

I'll tell you, I'm playing a custom economic race and I don't know why the Yor did not attack me. I'm glad they didn't. In general I notice that war is not something the AI takes lightly (intelligent level). The thing is, I had/have only conquest victory enabled, so perhaps the Yor should have attacked. How else are they going to win? Not that I'm knocking the game--I'm too new to do that, lol. Just asking questions. I wonder why I got an alliance victory when I had all modes of victory except conquest turned off? Oh well. Much to learn for me. Thanks again for your reply. I'll reinstall since I may have messed up somewhere.

In 1.1 it was made so the AI is less aggresive. (off-topic a bit)I'm sorry Stardock, but this is pandering to whiners. The AI just sit there nowadays, and it's become easy to survive being economic without any fleets.

Well anyway, to see a post click "Everything" at the side, and surf the posts. Alternatively, self bump (post a comment) and it'll show in recent.

And as for an alliance victory, I have no idea. Did you change anything in the first screen after clicking alliance off? Victory conditions occasionally reset.

Yes, I thought the AI was a bit passive. I'll have to not ally and just bear the assault if they do attack... otherwise it seems I can rather easily buy/bribe my way to victory (so it seems so far--I may find out otherwise later, lol).

No, I had all modes of victory disabled, so conquest is "it" by default. It's possible that the victory conditions changed when I saved and turned off my PC. I'm not in a position to make any guesses on how possible that is. I do have a somewhat out of date video driver and the game crashes after several hours of play (sometimes) so it may be that a crash due to my not updating my video driver caused some corruption and reset the victory conditions. The races certainly seem to be playing like there is more than one way to win it. Next game I'll update the driver and see what happens. Gal Civ 2 seems to be a very interesting game, btw. Thanks for the reply.
