Having Alien populations on your world suggestion and other political suggestions.

Also how this impacts on cultural influence, revolts and the nature of planetery invasions (may not all be one post).

When you invade a world, you fight as present, all your troops fight all their population as present. But there is a victory bar which is adjusted by the success or failiure of the two sides in battle, Neither attackers or defenders fight to the death.

Both sides have a courage bar which is set by the following factors
1. The courage rating of the civilization
2. The morale rating of the planet for the defender.
3. The total approval rating of the civilization for the attacker.

Both sides lose courage as they lose casualties, the amount lost is random (withing limits) so one cannot always predict how hard either your own forces or those of a planet will fight before fleeing or surrendering.

The consequences of a courage bar bieng reduced to zero vary depending on whether it is the attacker or the defender, in certain special situations (such as revolts) both sides count as defenders in this respect.

If the defenders courage bar is reduced to zero, they surrender and the entirety of the surviving defender forces become unassimilated alien citizens (see below).
If the attackers courage bar is reduced to zero, the invasion is over and the transport module of the attackers is replaced with a colony ship module (so they can't launch any more invasions with that ship). There ship is also reduced to 1 hitpoint out of whatever. 25% of the time, all the attackers are destroyed as the defenders obliterate the attackers transport in orbit.

Aliens
Conquering a world doesn't magically transform aliens into humans (or whatever), instead they become unassimilated aliens of whatever race they belong too. The invasion force also settles on the planet and function as normal citizens in every respect.

Unassimilated aliens produce half the taxes, research and production of same race citizens, however all their racial abilities remain. They do not fight in a planetery invasions, nor can they be loaded onto transports or colony ships. They multiply just like normal citizens, modified by their population growth ability. Aliens that multiply quickly can be trouble for an occupying race for this reason. Unassimilated aliens do not vote in planetery elections either. Nor do they generate any culture for their masters.

Things are decided by percentage, take our Weber I a Arcean world conquered by the Terran alliance.

At the time of the invasion's end there were 3 billion surviving arceans on the planet and 1 billion surviving humans from the invasion force. The arceans have a 20% economic bonus and the humans have a 20% research bonus.

As a result of this, the planet recieves 7.5% economic bonus and 5% research bonus. The arceans have 75% of their bonus, but due to the fact they are unassimilated aliens they only give half the humans. The humans only make up 25% of the population, so only contribute 25% of their research bonus to the total.

Weber I produces 20 IP, however it only produces 5 beacause that is the percentage of humans on the planet. If Weber I was invaded, there would only be 1 billion defenders, the Arceans would basicly be for the victor to claim.

Assimilation
Gradually over time unassimilated arceans, assuming the planet is kept reasonably happy and they are not under Arcean cultural influence will become assimilated by humans. They are now Terran Alliance assimilated Arceans. They now contribute fully to the Terran alliance, providing all their unique abilities. They are to all intents and purposes the same as other citizens, except their abilities are different. If a planet is under the influence of a third race, cultural assimilation happens at half speed.

However should worlds populated by assimilated aliens become unhappy, then they will radidly become unassimilated aliens again.

When a planet is turned by culture, all citizens start off as assimilated aliens to their new civilization.

Revolts
Unassimilated aliens place a heavy morale penalty on the planet. If they are able to make the planet unhappy, there is a high chance a revolt will occur. All assimilated aliens and members of the occupying race will fight, and they count as the attackers as per combat mechanics (and choose the planetery invasion tactics to use, potentially damaging their own planet).

If the rebels lose, the survivers go back to being unassimilated aliens. If they win then all assimilated aliens of their race decide to switch loyalties and become ordinery citizens of the new regime. Members of the occupying race become unassimilated aliens themselves .

Xeno revolts result in the planet defecting to it's old civilization. If that civilization no longer exists then the civilization is reborn. As a result of such a momentuos event 25% of all assimilated aliens of that type in the galaxy become unassimilated, with the addition of half the lack of morale of their planet. So for instance if the planet is at 50 morale, then 50% of the aliens become unassimilated, if it is at 0 then 75% do. Non-racial galactic movements only recieve the morale based unassimilation, not the 25%.

All ships in orbit on that planet are siezed and now belong to the rebels as do a certain of all ships (determined according to total approval rating) built on that planet defect also. The new civilization starts off at war with it's former masters.
