Planet bonuses--no noob here, but needs some help.

I owned galciv, and I have had this game since it came out. I can rock out and obliterate my opponents in a large galaxy against everyone with fair amount of ease. I never have played less then challegening, and I've moved on from that. I have been playing the campaign, though, and I have a ton of trouble with the dread lords. I have changed everthing I can think of to give myself an advantage (even though it's usually a new game situation given to everyone that I know how to use right...like more money or more techs). I even made my planet quality better, and added new planets.

now, the one thing that I haven't figured out how to change is the laws governing the occurence of planetary bonusses (100% manufacturing, 300% research, etc.) If anyone knows where this file resides/how to access these properties, I would be greatful for the knowledge

Nope. Either a) stop being in denial and activate cheat mode
or b) exploit the DL's many weaknesses (slow, cant change design, cant research, can't fleet)

Best way to beat them I found was to get Large Vessels and put a ton of high lvl lasers on them and armor and attack in fleets. You will lose some ships anyways but you will kill theirs too.

Best way I've found is a scorched earth policy, it throughs them off, then allows the other races to be a altarian/torian/thalen/whatever shield. By the time they fight it out over one or two planets (becuase you destroyed the rest) you allies will easily be fighting them off (after taking the planet back and forth your allies steal lots of high level tech). THen, you can build up, and launch a high level attack against the weakend Dread Lords. It takes time, but works (except for the last mission).

No need for cheats,
take the bonus tiles as they are, there are always manu & research bonus tiles on most planets
you can lower difficulty (cakewalk is still hard enough against the DL's)
many tips can be found on these forums, the main ones being:

*rushing is the key in most missions;
given the time, the DL's will build up a very tough fleet
*you can always review the victory conditions during the mission
just follow your briefing, completing the objectives wil result in victory
no need to wipe everyone out, if you only need to take 1 planet

*play the alternatives if you can't hack the first 5 missions, they will get you along just the same..

*DL ships are like eggshells; as long as you first strike them with decent force, they will crack

*leave your planets unprotected (no ships in orbit) to prevent being swarmed by DL's
this will draw in unescorted DL transports that you can easily take out,
if one gets through, with enough pop you won't get invaded
if you do lose a planet, retake it & meanwhile get a great weapon tech

alright, thanks guys.

to clear up a few things. I'm on the second to last mission. I managed to beat the first 8 or 9 with no help/cheats, etc. I don't only want this to help beat the campaign, I also just like modding.

And I have tried everything you guys have said (minus the scorched earth policy and leaving my planets undefended). Especially with the increase in tech, I can womp the DL usually, after a bit of gameplay. I've never been one for rushing, but swarn tactics do work well, and the huge fleet thing is definately key. Problem on this level is drengin are, by design, rediculously strong, too.
