Overpopulation

I don't know if this is a bug or a suggestion. I notice that if I put too many farms on a planet and the population gets too high that the moral on that planet bottoms out. However, if I remove a farm so my food production can't support such a large population then the very next turn my planet is down to a manageable population and everyone is happy again. Doesn't anyone wonder where all those people went? Don't they care? Maybe if I were running an 'evil' society they wouldn't but I was running a good one.

Anyway, just a thought.

I would love to see someone create a mod for a building that can be created by an Evil Civ that converts excess population into a morale bonus, because Soylent Green is Tasty. So if a planet can support upto X population at 100% morale, then the population is capped at that level.

END COMMUNICATION

I would classify this as a bug. If you have insufficient food, the population disappears in one turn with no further worries.

There really should be a period of extreme unrest as people starve and die off.

Population and taxes are always negatives -- the higher the population or the higher the taxes, the less morale your people will have. Buildings and planet quality give you some of the morale points back.

If you want to get their morale up, you need to give them morale boosters. So you need to research the "Entertainment" tech tree. Give them 0-G stadiums, etc... There are other things that will give you morale boost as well -- there's a trade good that's some kind of spices, which gives you a 15% morale boost. There are morale resources that will give you another 2-5% boost.

actually I think there should be automatic free migration put into the game, so that excess pop growth is not wasted, these starving people would become refugess, they move to some other planet in your empire and the moral there goes into the toilet.

Maybe population migration for good societies, Soilent Green for evil societies. Neutral societies could just pop them off the way it does now.
