WAYPOINTS...
are in...

... it's just called "Rally Point" (look at the video tutorial on this subject)

...

and if you mean the display of the Current Path for your survey ships...
that will be in...

... in v1.1... as an option

(wow, that's a lot of dots)

Kalin, he means multiple navigation points for ships to follow. Go here, then here then here, etc... This way you could have your fleet automatically navigate around certain areas of the map you wish to avoid.

I think too few games make use of this functionality.

Yeah waypoint could be useful for scouts too!

Besides I want a sweep sector option / guard route option. So that fighters follow waypoints and auto attack if there are enemies nearby if not they proceed to the next sector, waypoint etc. (in a loop!)

I have noticed this as well. Often times I will not want ships to cross through certin areas. Like in my last game my empire bordered the Korx empire on three sides and I wanted to start by taking a planet on the other side of the Korx from the one that was producing the troopship. If I just told it to go then it would move straight through enemy territory and die a horrilbe, firey, vaporous (I think thats a word ) death with the screaming and the flailing and OH THE... um... well my race isn't human so... OH THE SQUIRELINESS OF IT ALL!!!

I thought I had heard of a way to do this though? I just never found it.

I think this could be implemented wiith rally points, if I remember correctly you set your ships to go to a rally point, and the options are something like "do nothing, autp-fleet, auto-attack". It shouldn't take that much coding (I think) to set up a bunch of "nothing" points, then set them all to "Go to rally point 2" or something similar.

However, the AI probably wouldn't bother with it, so I doubt it would be implemented. If I want to scout out unknown areas, I press "w" which is auto explore. You can already see where enemy ships on your map are, and with eyes of the Universe it's even easier. What's the point?

Waypoints would be excellent for this, but I wish your ships had better AI as far as autoexplore. It seeems like mine will target one small spot of unexplored space, spend a couple turns flying thru explored space to get there, then target another unexplored spot on the other side of explored space. They spend more turns flying thru explored space than they do actually exploring.

I think a good auto explore routine should do at least one of three things:

1 Determine the longest straight-line path that will remove the most fog

2 Fly to nearest range boundary that is unexplored and target a square it can fly to in 1 turn that is the furthest range from empire. As it worked its way in it would take its sensor range into account and work along a line that puts its outer sensor perimeter at the edge of unexplored space.

3 Do the opposite and fly to closest unexplored and work out, once again keeping ships sensor range into account

Thats how I explore when I'm trying to map the most area quickly

Oh! I never even thought of that because he said "survey ships". I just hit auto survey and forget about it until it pops up a message about no more anomalies. Then I hit auto explore and forget about it until it says no more unexplored territory. That's when I either 1) scrap it, or 2) upgrade it to a battleship.

Yeah I suppose multiple way points would be cool, although what I believe most of you are asking for is a "patrol", and I believe that is what is being implemented for the AI ships. Perhaps we can get an option like that for ours as well.

in galciv 1 they used to have the sector sweep, and then i think another thing similar where it followed a preset patrol sort of path

It would be nice. Some races get a little nervous when my transports fly right beside their planet on my way to attack someone else.

...bump...

i forgot I even started this thread , but yes, I'd like to be able to tell a ship/fleet to go to Point A, then Point B, then Point C, etc. Sometimes I like to avoid certain areas, sometimes I want to explore an area in a certain pattern, etc....

OK but since the first beta, ships going to rally points sometimes "forget" and stop dead in space.
