Any quick way to delete player ship designs ?

Hi guys,

Anyone know if there's a file that can be deleted or any other function that allows the user to delete all player-desgined ships ? The reason I'm asking is that I'm an inveterate designer and had so much fun with the shipyard that it's now full of silly designs. I've decided to develop ships with consistent themes, and now want to clean up the shipyard.

I've noticed that when I delete/obsolete a design, it comes back in future games. I want to delete designs permanently and start fresh.

Thanks for any input !

Ship designs can be found (and deleted) in C:\...something...\My Games\GalCiv2\ships and \Metaverse\ships.

Oh the irony

Gapper3, do you know by chanse how to KEEP designs for future games? I want to keep mine, but they almost never show up in the next game.

LOL, sorry GR, I have no idea. The ships just appear in future games when the appropriate tech has been researched. I don't remember doing anything specific to get that result.

You need the exact miniturisation, weapon, engine, and hull techs you had when you built it. Which means if your ship has warp drive 1, you need warp drive 1 reseached etc.

Having to go into to some file to get rid of ship designs seems a little too work intensive for a game. Some of us more retarded individuals who have jobs or lives not tied to computers need an easier way to do some of these normal operating activities without have to track down some errant file some where. Please address these ease of use questions in the next patch.

Still love the game, but geeze louise.

Well, when you have a design in-game, you can delete it (which removes it utterly), or obsolete it (which leaves it for a future game).

This poster asked for a quick way of doing it, presumably on mass - that involves deleting the files.

In the manual it states that 'obsolete' removes the design AND decomissions (removes) all ships of that design from the current game, whereas 'delete' just removes the design WITHOUT touching built ships. (See page 53 in the pdf-manual)
I might be wrong though, if the manual isn't up-to-date anymore.

I know what you mean. I need to delete a bunch of my ships that look kinda bad. I would just say oh well and leave them, but I am running out of cool names for ships.

Obsolete will just remove the design from the build lists in that game only. No files are deleted.

Delete will delete the ship defintion file (.shipclass for pre 1.1 builds and the xml file for 1.1+ builds) but not the .shipcfg file because you might still have ships using that configuration.

I think that both will prompt you to decomission all ships of that type, but as a user pointed out in another thread, it doesn't work for ships in fleets.

Save games save all ship designs even if they are obsolete or deleted so that if you have ships of that design, it isn't invisible in game.

If you want to completely clear out your ships folder, finish any save games you have, then delete your save games and the contents of the ships folder.
