GalCiv2 roadmap

What did I read from Stardock about the roadmap of upcoming changes...

A second expansion pack may be created that adds multiplayer if there's sufficient demand. Beyond that we will have to see.

Sufficient demand? I can't talk for all others but when the time has come for that second expansion pack everybody has played dozens of games against the AI and talked about their strategies with others hundreds of times.
I think the demand WILL be there. Create a state-of-the art fleet and SHOW the friend or neighbour, who told me about his never failing strategy yesterday, what defeat is really about...

I accepted the former decision to create a single player game, the quality was worth it. Now I have the greatest 4E game since MOO2 in my hands and... I'm sorry... still want more.

So, if you are collecting votes for a multiplayer expansion: ME ME ME ME

Please do this! And please make it work like the classic Stars! game where all players plan their moves and send the commands to a host which then calculates the results. That prevents having to sit and wait for all the other players to do their turns while you cant do anything.

I don't think you'd be able to convert multiplayer into a format where the players would be able to make their moves simultaneously without changing a lot of the game mechanics at once. For example, intercepting a fleet in space - no way that would work if your move happens at the same time as your enemy's. You'll miss them by a mile.

yeah this game would be destroyed by everyone taking turns at the same time, just utterly destroyed .
Im not convinced multi player will be nearly as good as ppl want/expect from this game, it simply wasnt designed for it .

I disagree. Its actually very simply. All they have to do is make a list of what order everything happens. For example the movement part could look like this:

1. Ships targeting empty space move.
2. Ships targeting enemy ships move (to whereever their target might have moved in step 1)
3. Ships targeting friendly planets move.
4. Ships targeting enemy planets move

Within each step the ships with the highest movement rating will move first.

While my little list is just a simplified example, it would allow you to intercept enemy transports before they land on your planet. It would also allow you to move defenders into orbit before transports could arrive to invade. So anyone wanting to invade a planet would be best served by escorting their transports and by sending warships to attack the planet first to be certain that no defenders are left in orbit. It would also mean that intercepting a faster ship in empty space would be impossible unless that ship was moving towards you, since the other ship would move in step 1 and the interceptor would then have to try to catch up in step 2.

It doesnt actually change that many game mechanics. The game is already set up so that if you target an enemy ship with one of your ships, then your ship will keep following the enemy until it catches him and combat occurs.

I too want to be able to play multiplayer, and not the "hotseat" variety, but the real thing. As I really enjoy the great work on on this game, I would like to be able to play with others.

I too want multiplayer, but only after all the bugs and glitches have been removed from the original and the game has been tweaked to near perfection. Then we can add on.

why not put a timelimit on the turns depending on amount of ships and stuff like that

I too share the desire to have multiplayer options. I need it to lure some friends of mine into playing the game.
Can't wait !!!!!!!! Well, in fact the game isn't released until may in Spain, so I think there's still rather time left until I feel real urge.

Hot seat would be nice, since you have to take turns to do that anyway and it's already sorta-kinda in the game. As for the rest.... eh...

My vote-
NO MULTIPLAYER!!
NO MULTIPLAYER!!

(for this game anyway)

Let the Developers just concentrate on getting on the suggestions and bugs worked out in this game as it was released.
Why water it down with multiplayer..

Just my opinion for THIS game..Make it as best as possible with distracting the Dev's!
Thank you!

To the Devs...

Concentrate on perfecting the Single play. Then start on Multi-play.

To the Forum Posters...

Brainstorm on how to make a great Multiplay in GavCiv II

I want MP also.

One thing I think would be fun, is a play by email type game. (if you REALLY want to get spiffy, create an easy-to-use web module to uplaod turns into, etc).
