dlsearchbar contained on disk 1 blocked by firewall and antivirus. Also...

Dlsearch is blocked by my firewall and antivirus, when I delete the setup exits. What kind of crap comes along with this game? I hate when companies pimp there other crap onto a game disk.

Furthermore I have been screwing around trying to load this thing after 5 attempts (to wit I have memorized my reg. key now) and keep getting the following error:

Could not load the DLL library
C: \ Docume~1\User\Locals~1\Temp\GLF77.tmp.
The specified module could not be found.

The file loading at the time was; .....\GalCiv2\SDPlugins\DXAxHost.dll

Looks like a great game but that's all just crafty advertising speaking. What happened to the old days of thowning 7 CDs into your compy and 30 minutes later you're deep in gameplay?

If any of you can help assist me in my little problem I would be most appreciative.

Ok, I got tired of waiting and fixed it myself.

So if anyone gets the same errors, do this.

Go to disk 2 and load the dx.exe yourself outside of the install disk.

2nd. turn off ALL anti virus' (funny 5 major adware/spyware companies consider dlsearchbar spyware)... but none the less. Let this "program" install and your install will go straight through.

Woth all the pain in the ass this game has given me, I better have a sh!t eating grin in 60 minutes....

Yeah, you really don't want/need overlapping programs for spyware. 1 antivirus, 1 firewall, 1 spyware searcher, at most. And a lot of the crappy things look at the script and send a message basically saying "It's trying to do something! OMG HAXX0RZZ!!eleven!!" and just give the red flag to a normal everyday piece of code.

so don't blame the game when your cluttered system is too busy jumping at phantoms to do anything useful.

It's all one program slick. Thanks for the advice though. The reference to the 5 companies was courtesy of google.

DLsearchbar is nothing to do with StarDock, and is probably not being installed.

Several spyware/virus detectors are overly stupid when it comes to detecting the differences between Stardock's installer and DLSearchbar. I believe it's listed as a known issue somewhere around these forums.

Dlsearchbar is definitely spyware... However, the detection of it is likely a false positive. In other words, it doesn't exist on the disk, your detector is either broken, or set to detect things that are "possible" threats. Get in touch with support@stardock.com directly, I've found them _very_ responsive when approached. Maybe not in 10 minutes, but soon after you email em, anyway

Oh, and DXAxHost is required to handle the graphical UI in GalCiv 2.

Thanks for the reply. The Freedom program I am using traced the dlsearchbar to the disk 1. I understand it could possibly mistake it, just don't know how. Anyways, it's loaded up, now all I have to worry about is the stupid button graphics issue I'm having rendering my game useless. I DL all updated drivers for everything and nothing is doing the trick. I've adjusted all settings and chaged variations and nothing works. I hope my other post gets some attention. If not then I'll throw my err on here.

I ran into minor problems with my mcafee antivirus; it kept labeling the exe as a suspicious script, and tried to block its launch. Interestingly enough, when I try to click the "ignore" option, it pops right back up again...the only way to bypass it is to click the "allow to run this one time" option...not a big deal really, and more, I think, to do with mcafee's built-in paranioa than anything else. I'm at work, so I can't remember the exact script off-hand, but I'll run it by the support when I get the chance. Any chance anyone knows the link for the previous forum posts regarding this "issue".
All in all, a rocking game.
nm last post, found the problem (for my situation at least)...something to do with VB scripting or other.
I think i get exactly the same Mcafee script blocking pop-up as you. Comes up everytime i run Galciv2. What was your fix for this? No problem if you can't help out, i can just allow the script to run and the game loads ok.

Do a search for "script"; there is a forum with info on it. Basically, GC2 uses something called VB to run, and Mcafee is set to search for any VB programs. I just do the same thing as you; I've tried to force mcafee to allow the script, but it just keeps popping up the block-warning every time.

Speaking of funky support issues

I'd like to take this moment to say that I hate HATE HATE most "anti-virus" programs. I think most, not all, but most of the anti-virus makers have lost their way and are more of a problem to the typical user than the virii are. One of my friends computers was soooo beefed up with overlapping anti-spyware/anti-virus stuff that his system was crawling. Until I cleaned off some of the redundant antivirus programs, the install from CD was taking forever. That gives me the chills. Because you know there will be thousands of people out there who don't buy games very often but who do like strategy games who will buy the thing, take it home and their mega-anti virus programs -- overlapping, will slow things down.
...

And while they somehow manage to have systems full of debilitating software, they also manage to have installed several different anti-spyware packages.

One anti-virus maker that really has my ire is McAfee. They detect ANY call to Windows Scripting Host as a virus. Great... Our launcher gadget uses VB Script to detect whether the game is already installed so that when a user puts in the CD it doesn't try to install it but rather says "Play". Mind you, this only happens if you have every option on it clicked so it's not a common issue. But as the QA guys looked into it, they were astounded -- it labels all calls to WSH as "Malicious scripts". No sort of parsing that we could detect. Just a simple IF using VB Script THEN "Malicious script".

Link

From page 10 of the journal ... It's sad how many issues antivirus software causes with so many different things due to generally being overreactive or overhyping potential damages and not pointing out glaring problems clicking a checkbox would do. But hey, don't take my word for it

Well, your sound drivers may be a little old, but I don't know it that might have an influence on graphical problem.

Have your tried to turn off some graphical option, like Anti-Aliasing?
