Population Question

Ok so I noticed something and I have a question regarding populations.

I remember reading that population growth is capped at 200 million per turn. So my questions are this...

Does this mean EACH PLANET grows 200 million per turn?

And if so is there a way to increase this growth rate?

I ask because as I was playing a game (gigantic, tough, all common) I noticed that the only two races I had encountered both had larger populations than me. The Torians had 9 planets, compared to my 12. They had over 45 billion people while I only had 19. The Iconians had 12 planets but had over 35 billion people. If the growth is capped how is it that these two people had not only a little bit higher populations but more than double my population.

I thought about farms for a moment but everything I have heard seems to suggest that this only increases the max population and does not make it actually grow faster.

I usually keep my taxes set such that my approval is 50% or higher.

What is the AI doing that I am not?

Did this post even make it up?

I can't seem to find it on the forums. *sigh* I can only get to it from 'my posts'.

Im at work, not at home, so hopefully I won't muck this up but I think it's the Torian's who get a 30% population growth bonus. They always have tons of people. And you get double the growth rate if you're at 100% morale. The only other thing I can think of is the trade good: aphrodesiac (sp?) that grants an additional 15% bonus to population growth.

Yeah, the Torians have the extra population growth.

When you're starting the game, you get points to distribute among attributes. One of them is population growth — that's what you're looking for.

I can't really reccomend it, though, it'll only make a little bit of a difference in the long run.

Well I can say for certin it wasn't the aphrodesiac because it was still very early in the game and I had gotten no indication telling me that they had it.

Well that 30% might explain the Torians but what about the Iconians who also out... um.... danced me? I would think that being a sentient squirel and all I would have that down by now.

The Torians have a population growth bonus, plus there are other bonuses to population growth. At a 75% approval rate, the population rate increases by 25%, and at a 100% approval rate, the population rate doubles. The 200M/turn is a hard cap however, except on Version 1.1 where the bonuses take place after the hard cap.
