Morale Resource?

I was playing the first mission in the campaign last night, and I took over the Morala Resource towards the centre of the map with a constructor (had to fight off the Drengin first, but their own stabase had never been upgraded so fell to the weakest of attacks...)

Yet when I checked the nearest colony (shown as being well within the starbase's circle of effect - about 2 or 3 pc away!), there were no starbase bonuses listed.

Is it that I've misunderstood how this resource works, or is it a bug? I can try to post a link for a saved file if anybody wants...

I believe it's supposed to work as a global bonus rather than one in the starbase's area of effect - otherwise you could have a resource stuck out nowhere near a planet and so there'd be no point in mining it.

Resources are civilisation wide. Hover your mouse over the moral indicator on any planet, and you should get a breakdown of everything affecting morale on that planet. I'm not sure on how a morale resource will show up in that, but a little experimentation(upgrade the mining base and see what changes) should show it up if it isnt immediately obvious.

I think morale bonuses from mining resources show up under the "native ability" when you mouseover the morale on your planet details screen. No idea how it breaks down, though.

You would also need to upgrade it with further constructors to enhance its mining potential before noticing anything positive gained in your morale!

Ah, thanks...

So all of the mining starbases affect your whole civilisation? And this means any starbase built on a resource, right? Sorry, I seem to have totally missed the point of that!

I presume, then, that the area of effect listed for a mining starbase is for non-mining-related upgrades, such as military assistance? (I really should play with starbases some more to learn this...)

But non-resource-based starbases only affect things within their radius, which is why my planets near my other (non-mining) starbase showed a bonus from it...

Am I wrong on any of that?

I think the area of effect on mining starbases is meaningless.

Yes: Mining Starbases have no area of effect - they are galaxy-wide. Military/Economic/Influence only affect the shaded ring around them that you can see when they are selected. Also, mining starbases dont count towards the 3 parsec thing..... they are effectively mines, not starbases!

Necros threados resurrectus!

I've just started playing again (after over a year away) and, whilst I understand the game a lot more now I still have a few questions regarding starbase effects and ranges.

Firstly, does an influence starbase affect the influence produced by your planets within the circle of effect, or the influence felt by enemy planets within the circle of effect? I has always assumed the former, but the latter would also make some sense...

Secondly, how do trade modules on economy starbases work? Does the benefit occur for planets within their area? (And if so, should those planets be your planets with trade routes, or planets with which you trade?) Or does the benefit apply to the actual trade routes under in the starbase's area? (And if so, is the whole route affected or merely the squares within the area? If it it the latter, does that mean it is best to stack your starbases towards the end of the route?)
