Taxation

I noticed this last night and I was wondering what the reason was. I was changing the tax rate (increasing it) and I noticed that the total spend amount, not spend rate, was decreasing. I also changed the spend rate, and saw the tax amount changing. I would think the amounts for each of them should change independent of the other.....

I also had a problem with spending. No matter how I changed my spending %, the $ amount was the same. I restored the game and then it was alright.

Dawn,

I just tried this on a new game to see what would happen. I see that the "total active spending" value does change as the tax rate is changed, but only when the tax rate reaches about 80%, but morale dropped to about 15% at that point. Since the spending rate is really tied to production and research capacity which is also tied to the productivity of the population, I suspect morale has a subtle affect on production and research capacity, so that when the tax rate drives morale into the sewer it also lowers the productivity of the workers. At least, that is my guess.

Wow! 80%. I moved it from ~20 to about 30%. The morale didn't decrease immensely. The spending amount didn't change a lot, but any change is a change. I guess the small amount could be due to the slight morale decrease....

Dawn,

At the start of a game with very little in income and production capability the values are quite small, so with 40% tax rate and 100% spending rate what I had in amounts was only 10BC revenue and 16BC spending. Further on in the game it will become more critical.
